How do you raise your COTI social standing

Hi,

I am still new to COTI and was wondering what the meaning of some things in the headers of each post. I couldn't find a FAQ that explained things.

My SOC is set to 1, but I see most other people have something higher. How does one raise your SOC? I am lonely down here at the bottom of the social ladder.

On the right hand side of everyone's header, there are various numbers of green boxes. What do those mean?

So does this mean that in canon OTU nobility can be bought?

In short, yes you can. Its explicitly stated that major mega-corp CEOs and board members are holders of noble ranks.

I don't know if the noble titles are linked to the positions, or given to directly to the post holders, but in the MgT fluff, its pretty explicit that corps, as the primary drivers of interstellar trade, and thus the people who have prehaps the largest intrest in safe, stable interstellar government, are able to gain a say in how the 3I is run. The 3I version of Ltd/PLC/ect is LIC, standing for Limited Imperial Charter. As in, they sign a cut down version of the charter that member planets sign, and are part of the imperium, and have imperial representation, distinct form the planets they operate out of.

a quote form the MgT Spinward marches book:
Many of the great nobles of the Imperium are shareholders or officers of
the Megacorporations. This is hardly surprising as the Imperium
was founded by a businessman and of its original nobility was
made up of his allies and supporters. The Imperium is built upon
economic activity, and many its leaders are captains of industry.

To be clear, CotI Soc is based on your participation. The more you post the higher your Soc.

The Peerages on the board has to do with people who are paying to support CotI. You get a CotI Peerage based on your level of financial support. These titles are in no way part of the actual game itself.

These CotI Peerages are separate from the noble titles that Marc occasionally confers. Some of us list these awards from Marc in our Signatures. If there is a such thing as a "living Imperium", I hope these titles are part of that.

Never noticed the dots purpose. Where are they mentioned on the BBS?

You mean the dots on the right hand side, below the number of posts, location, join date, etc.? That is a reputation system usable by moot members and staff. You can read about it here. (Note that that section is unclear. Only moot members and staff can add reputation, and only they can hide their reputation.)

Anyone can see the details of their personal CotI reputation by going under the User CP drop-down menu at the top right of the page, and choosing Control Panel. Your detailed reputation received is listed there.

They usually come with one, now, however. Not of need the same rank. I mean, Marc styled me Archduke of Sylea...

Only moot members votes count for rep. But, for what it's worth, green rep can speed newbs through the moderated posting phase, and red rep (in sufficient quantities) can put someone in the sin-bin, and moderated posting.

Sufficiently green posters get to edit older posts.

I didn't even know reputation was a thing. Is it basically a Facebook Like system?

I've never given any likes. Hope I'm not failing in my responsibilities as a member.

I don't do Facebook, so you will have to ask someone else about that.

Basically, on the upper right corner of any post there is a small set of scales that you can click to give rep. It will give you an interface allowing you to choose "I Approve", or "I Disapprove", and a space to type a comment. However, only the rep given by a Moot-member assigns actual points to the Rep-tally. Basically, each 100 points represents one "block" of the reputation icon. You get your second block at 100 points, your 3rd at 200, etc.

You only see the scales on other peoples posts if you are a member of the moot. Non-moot posters can only see the scales on their own posts, so can not give reputation.

As a non-moot member, there is nothing you can do regarding reputation, so you have no responsibilities.

No - it's got the option for negative.

At a certain level of bad rep, the individual no longer gets to post without supervision - they post, mods can delete or approve as seen fit.

At a further level negative, they are unable to post at all. (Same as non-spammer bans)

Hi,

Thanks, those answers help a lot. After that post and another my SOC jumped to 5 (total of 11 posts at that point, so I guess the break even point is 10 posts). I also understand why I couldn't ever vote for any reputation since I am not a member of the moot.

Cheers,

Lewis

I believe you hit SOC-12 at 101 posts, SOC-13 at 501 posts, and SOC-14 at 1001 posts.

At 10,001 posts, you become an honorary Noble if you are not already a Moot Member.

(And the SOC values are based on the 3D6-distribution from the T20 system, so SOC-10/SOC-11 is "average", and SOC-15 is the lowest rung of Nobility).
