I Finally got off my bum and ordered books yay.

So I finally ordered books for me and from reading the responces from my earlier post on what to purchase. I ended up ordering the Pocket version, as well as the Spinward Marches, Traders and Gunboats, and 760 patrons. Which all together to me seems a good start. I do want to ask if Book 0 is worth getting a couple of copies of for my players. for the rules and character generation? Thanks in advance and I did my ordering thru Amazon.ca as they had the best prices I could find. So all I have to do is wait for them to finally ship lol well thanks again to everyone that helped me earlier and thanks to any that help now.

Welcome to the Mongoose club.

Seriously, my best RPG buy in a long time - I've got the main book, 760 Patrons, Mercenary, and High Guard. I'm very happy with all of them and they'll all see use once I get my group to agree to play it (especially 760 Patrons - that book is gold).

And this is why Traveller will last another 30 years - new blood brought in by the new version of the game.

Welcome Jacqual :)

Well I did start with CT back in the day. I have the 1st printing of books 1-3 and then others I got over the years. Mongoose Trav got me interested as I heard it was very close to CT in feel. If all it is an update to the CT rules I will pretty much be in game exctasy. Now all I have to do is wait for arrival of goods in the post.

I figured from your post count that you must have been a previous Traveller owner, which is why I said welcome to Mongoose Traveller. It is similar in tone to CT (which I also still have) and yet, for me at least, does so many things I wish CT had done (and that later versions like MT and TNE tried to do) that for me it was a no-brainer. That I went and got a bunch of other supplemetns for it was just conceit on my part. ;)

yes I just did the same the rules are very familiar with a few tweaks they seem to sit well with me. Old grognard getting back in the game again.

Young grognard who never really got out of the game here *waves* and likes MGT, with a number of revisions (e.g. the biosniffer as written is TL 9 and improves in function every two tech levels).

Arrrgh I had ordered the books and they came but Im at work and the mean wife will not bring them until after her movie is over like at 9 PM mountain time and I want them. I have no patience at all sheesh.

:D
I love the Mongoose version of Traveller - best yet. We finally get official ATU's - Babylon 5 looks yummy. Although Traveller T20 did publish 2320AD.

HOWEVER - I will not ever run this version. Why? I'm a GURPS gamer and GURPS 4th edition is very good. Yea we only got one Traveller book three years ago - but its a good one. I do use all of my other Gurps books like Bio-Tech and Martial Arts as additional material for my Traveller campain.

The good news is - if I ever run out of stuff to do - I can also buy the awesome Mongoose Traveller material and convert it to Gurps easily.

By my count there are 10 major versions of Traveller:

Classic Traveller

Traveller:2300

MegaTraveller

Traveller: New Era

Traveller T4

Gurps Traveller

Traveller T20

Hero Traveller

Mongoose Traveller

Traveller T5

Of the ten - Mongoose is the Best and will keep the flame going for another 10 years at least.

I threw in 2300 because it is Traveller to many - but is not to many also. It was 2300AD - the cyberpunk game of a gritty future to me.

There are actually two versions of CT, tho' no big deal was made about the change.

GT, T20, HT: Not really traveller in the same sense as the rest; non-traveller games in the CT 2ndEd setting.

There was also Traveller: 2300, which is not the 3I setting, but is a clear rules-descendent of CT and Striker, and uses a task system later used in MT, but substitutes a d10 instead of 2d6. It's second ed was renamed: 2300AD.
