Imperial army gear

When the imperium finally gets involved, what armour and weaponry does imperial army and marine troopers lug around ?

Or is it all dependent on local troops available, and hence, unpredictable ?

Oh, yeah...there's some stuff in one of the JTAS articles. I'd start with the one on the Fifth Frontier War (I know it has order of battle and things like that--not so sure about equipment).

Maybe the Spinward Marches Campaign might have something as well, under the Husclarles section.

In a nutshell: Battledresees, FGMP-14's and Grav-Belts for the combat troops, with support personnel wearing Combat Armor and equiiped with Gauss Rifles. For veicles, go for a TL15 grav-gunship with high manouverability, a rapid-puse fusion gun and a tac-missile launcher. Remember that by TL15 (which is the main Imperial TL), air and land vehicles are both replaced by gravitics, so you'll end up with a grav-craft with a similar military function to a helicopter but without its drawbacks, which is also orbit-capable and which could manouver in pretty tight quarters without much trouble.

Actually MT/TNE states that the Imperial Army was a rather mixed bag:

Main Battle tank is the TL-14 Intrepid / Trepinda (10dton) with a rapid fire fusion gun with a few TL-15 "Heavy" G-Tanks (20dton, Fuzion gun+VRF Gauss) coming in but not well liked

Main APC is the TL-14 Astrin (light fusion gun) with some TL-15 (guided missile launcher + external missiles) slowly coming in

Some fire-support APC (As TL-15, exchanges guided launcher for VRF Gauss)

TL15 Meson Sled and Nuclear Damper

Army uses Combat Armor and Gaus-Weapons with Battledress and Fuzion/Plasma guns reserved for the SpecOps Jump-Troops

Much depends on interpretation of Imperial Army.

AFAIK the Imperial Army isn't a centeralized force but one that is raised and used locally. Deployed off world only for major situations where the Imperial Government "Imperializes" them. They are organized generally according to the Local Tech Level and local conditions. So a Brigade from Glisten is likely to be quite a bit different from a Brigade from Trin which in turn is likely to be quite a bit different from a Brigade from Mora, even though they are all TLF.

The Imperial Marines are a more homogeneous structure, but will still have some variations, in both TL and equipment (based on several Canon sources). I resolved this one way, others may have different ideas.

There's an article in White Dwarf #63 that discusses this.

Standard Armor (not BattleDress) is a flexible affair that serves as Mesh +1 fitted with reflec plates (Reflec +1).

Standard Helmet incorporates a CAVU (Computer Assisted Visulizing Unit) which is provides GDSS (Graphic Display Spot Sighting), infra red, light intensifier, SZF (Sight Zeroing Facility), and VCI (Video Compressed Image). In game terms, this provides a 270 degree view and a beneficial -2DM to surprise, stealth, etc.

The helmet also incorporates a Medium Range commo unit. Small tanks attached to the side of the helmet allow the user normal operations in Thin, Tainted, or Dense atmospheres.

In game terms: The helmet also acts as a combo mask, and each tank provides 52 minutes of operation. Space tanks can be carried.

Other equipment is appropriate to the duty station but can include things like: thermal heated sleeping bag; one-man cover-up; shovel/axe combo tool; compass; medkit; wrist locks; electric or chemical torch; signal flares; knife; 20m line; grapple; 20 day ration supply; cusine pack.

Weapons vary, depending on duty, but almost always include a blade and a "fold away" type slug thrower that can be stored in a backpack.

When shipboard, troopers tend to use lasers and forego heavy powerpacks in favor of lighter belt carried packs and connection cords to patch directly into shipboard power outlets.

Weasel,

I saw this when I was doing The Adjutant Index write up today, and I thought of you.

These are entries from The Adjutant, discussing typical combat gear you'd see on an Imperial Marine or Trooper.

It's good stuff.

M-60 C-LIFT
The M-60 Combat Load, Infantry, Field Tally kit is the equipment that is authorized to be carried by the line troops in the field. It is considered the optimum mix of support equipment for any type of operation or situation the solider may be subjected to. Troops have always added to this kit and have customized it based on conditions and personal preferences. This is acceptable as long as performance is not affected. The officially approved kit contains:

1) Mk V Balistic Helmet with FLIR (Foward Looking Infra Red) and HUD (Heads Up Display) Faceshield. Also installed is an on-demand Laser Rangefinder, Multichannel, Burst Transmission Radio. Senior NCO's and Officer's helmets are equipped with a Tactical Battle Display showing location of friendly and estimaed enemy locations and an INS (Inertial Navigation System) unit.

2) Body Armor, either the M-63 or M-65.

3) LC-4 Harness. This "Load Carrying" harness holds the following:

</font><blockquote>code:</font><hr /><pre style="font-size:x-small; font-family: monospace;">LC-4 Harness
-------------------------------------------------
A 4 Magazine holders, each holding one rifle or two pistol magazines.
B Grenade Satchel, for up to 6 30mm RAM Grenades
C Loops for 4 hand grenades (HE standard issue)
D Loops for 2 smoke grenades

G 1 Pioneer Tool with carrier
H Back Pack containing:
H1 4-6 condensed field ration meals
H2 Field First Aid Kit, Individual
H3 24 Stim Tabs (each tablet replaces 1 meal or 8 hours of sleep)
H4 1 spare set of clothing
H5 Space for 1 kg of personal items</pre>[/QUOTE]Specifications:
Combat Weight - Approx. 3 kg (empty LC-4 only)
Tech Level - TL 6 to TL 14
Price - 200Cr (not including munitions)

M-62
the M-62 Protection System is designed for maximum protection of the battlefront soldier under adverse field conditions and represents the final step in flak jacket and helmet design. They are often referred to as the "Gut Wrapper & Brain Bucket".

The Jacket is a composite layer of Kevlar Mesh & High Strength Ceramics with an outer layer of replaceable Reactive Charge Blocks. When a fast moving object, eg. a bullet, shrapnel, or other projectile, impacts the armor, one of the reactive blocks detonates, diffusing the kinetic energy transfer and preventing the projectile from penetrating. The jacket is capable of negating up to 30mm of penetration.

It is based on a rigid, clam-shell design with quick release buttons placed at strategic locations. Protection is offered to the entire torso both front and back and includes the groin, neck, and shoulder areas.

The Helmet has a built-in, multi-channel radio allowing communication on a squad, company, or battalion level. Command suits are also equipped with sideband tactical channels and links to division level units including TAC-AIR support and Medivac. The faceshield is equipped with an infra-red thermal imaging system and HUD tied to an LTD (Laser Target Designtor) sub-system. The shield is also equipped with an automatic damper for high intensity light pulses or low intensity laser light impacting the helmet. Command and NCO helmets are also equipped with a tactical battle display, INS (Inertial Navigation System), and vital signs indicators, for up to 20 other soldiers in the top portion of the HUD.

In a contaminated environment (biological or chemical) a sealable flap can be pulled up to mate with the bottom of the faceplate to seal the top portion of the suit. With the gloves on the wearer is sealed against these contaminates for several hours.

Total weight of the system is approximately 8 kg and is evenly distributed. It can be used with the standard M-60 LIFT kit. Power for the helmet is provided by fuel cells stored in the rear and lasting for several weeks. Spare cells are normally carried as part of the soldiers' personal gear.

Specifications:
Combat Weight - 8 kg
Sensors - Passive IR, Light Intensifiers, LTD
Common Net - Multi-Channel Tactical Band
Defense - Reactive Armor Blocks, High Intensity Light Pulse Dampner, limited NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical)
Tech Level - TL 8 to TL 12
Price - 10,000Cr Basic Suit; 20,000Cr Command Suit
Options - Chameleon enhancement add 10,000Cr

The M-65 is a full body version of the M-60, and it holds a few more enhancements. I'd type it out for you, but my fingers have tired from the above.

You get the idea.

Read more about this stuff in The Adjutant.

CT Canon:

SMC/JTAS No.9 says 4518th Lift Infantry Regiment (not strictly Imperial Army, but Imperialised for the wars) lift infantry ride in a TL15 12dT grav APC with space for 12 troops plus driver & gunner. It carries a mix of two types of tac missiles. Each platoon also has a "headquarters and support APC" that is not fully described beyond saying it has ECM and firepower support capabilities. The Huscarles have a TL15 20dT grav tank with a Fusion-Y gun. There is no indication as to individual equipment, beyond saying it is TL15.

JTAS No.11 says Zhodani commandos are equipped with battle dress, grav belts and PGMP-13s. Each group (squad) has one person carrying an FGMP-14 as a support weapon. Regular Zhodani lift infantry wear combat armour and carry Gauss Rifles with RAM grenades. One person per squad has an PGMP-14 for support. Lift infantry battalions in grav tank, mechanized infantry and lift cavalry regiments are equipped with battledress, and armed with PGMP-13s, with
FGMP-14s as the squad support weapon.

JTAS No.12 says that Imperial Marines normally wear battle dress and carry FGMP-14s. The Imperial Marine APC is a heavily armored grav
vehicle armed with a rapid pulse fusion
Y-gun and nuclear-tipped tac missiles.
