This is the uniform I will be using for Terran Confederation Navy security officers in my work in progress short movie.

Everything I've ever seen indicates the official duty uniforms to be a light grey with various red or black insignias.

Hi

Here is an image from the US Coast Guard Reservist Magazine that shows kind of what I thought Imperial Navy general operational uniforms might look like.

For the IN basic operational uniform in my Traveller Universe though I was thinking black for the trousers and light grey for the shirt for officers (and maybe a medium grey for enlisted).

Instead of collar devices (I hope that's the right term) for rank designation I was thinking of some sort of soft shoulder-board, like shown in the second image below.

Additionally maybe the undershirts/t-shirts and shoulder board back ground colors could be varied to represent different specialties, etc.

It would also depend on whose navy you were serving. I'd imagine some fleets would require a hard helmet whenever you're on duty, where others might be a bit lax about it.

Somehow, the Navy always conjuers up the Japanese Imperial Army (possibly from Star Wars) but also different variants without collars.

What I would not like to see for the Traveller navy would be just variants of the US uniform which seems to be now a world standard. So at the very least let it be like nuBSG.

As I have to question why in Traveller does everything have to look so American?

Mostly because just about any uniform pattern one can come up with has been used by the US at some point.

Really, there are only so many ways to make a shirt & trouser combination, including jumpsuits, and dress jackets, and I've seen most of them done in the history of the US (and UK) militaries. And both US and UK military service dress uniform seems to be modeled after the civil suits of 50 years prior.

And lapels are simply vestigial standing collar jacketss unbuttoned part way and folded down...

Also, found I like these WW1 German army uniforms alot. This officer's uniform shouts out Dune - Arrakis - Desert PLanet! to me :) [Edit: And they do remind me of the BSG 'Blues']

You all keep on thinking that futuristic uniforms look like dowdy WWI wool, but in my mind ...
