I am only speaking for myself here, but I'm brand new to Traveller and I'm not that special enough to think I would be the only person. 
I've purchased every PDF released thus far for Mongoose Traveller Second Edition and received my pre-order of the Mongoose Traveller Second Edition core rulebook and referee's screen a couple of weeks ago. I really like what I've seen and hope to play it soon.
So while Traveller may not be as relevant as it was in the '70s and '80s, nor as relevant as the Star Wars or Shadowrun RPGs, I'd still say it's relevant today.
