Korea

Now what of Korea? All we know is that it was a Manchurian satellite in 2300 AD.

Did it still [vaguely] resemble today's Republic of Korea, but with Manchuria instead of the US as the main benefactor?

Does Korea still has considerable high technology?

Does Korea maintain some outposts in space?

There has been a sizeable emigration of Koreans to the Manchurian colony of Haifeng, but the colony is still Manchurian says 2320 AD page 138

Hmm. That's fair enough.

Anyone knows its government structure and economy?

Haven't found anything in 2300 AD and the ECS books about their government.

It could be a democratic parlamentary republic, as the ECS indicates that North Korea was absorbed by South Korea. But the subjugated status to Manchuria could indicate a more authoritarian rule in Korea too.

The two are not mutually exclusive. Japan has been democratic for 50 years and is still said to be very authoritarian, and that's a lot to do with the conformity demands of society.

I remember that the Colonial Atlas briefly mentioned a Korean mining operation on Tirane, but I don't remember if it was even an enclave.

It was a Korean mining operation on Lachesis, moon of Proxima's gas giant.

I suspect that while the Korean state hasn't gotten involved in space exploration, individual Koreans have. In post-Twilight China, with some areas like the northeast virtually depopulated and a Korea that was in significantly better shape (not like Japan, mind), there might have been a movement of population from Korea into China.

Who knows? Maybe there are as many Manchurian Koreans as there are Korean Koreans, with the Koreans on Chengdu and Kwantung going unnoticed because they're just as any of Manchuria's subjects.
