Launch, Boat, and Pinnace Deckplans are Available

vutpakdi

SOC-13
I've added deckplans for various configurations of launches, ship's boats, slow boats, pinnaces, and slow pinnaces to my deckplans web site at:

http://homepage.mac.com/vutpakdi/Traveller_Deck_Plans/

As before, there are small JPEG versions designed for onscreen preview and larger, higher resolution PDF versions designed to be printed.

The deckplans are based on T20 standard designs for the named craft.

The descriptions from the README file appears below.

As usual, please send/post comments/suggestions.

Up next will probably be a T patrol cruiser by request.

Launch Description / Background
============================================================================

20 dTon Launches are extremely commonplace and almost all come in few
basic designs with only minor differences between versions produced by
different manufacturers.

Ling Standard Products produces three basic configurations of its TL-9
20 dTon Launch.

The standard configuration is designed for maximum flexibility and
includes a small cabin, 2 passenger couches, and 9.5 tons of cargo space.

The passenger/cargo configuration adds 6 more passenger couches and reduces
the cargo space to 6.5 tons. This version is commonly sold with LSP
subsidized merchants.

The lifeboat configuration is designed to primarily operate as a lifeboat
for large vessels. The configuration includes 6 passenger couches,
3 emergency low berths, and extra fuel. Cargo capacity is reduced to 3.5
dTons some of which is awkwardly stored in front of the emergency low
berths.

============================================================================
Ship's Boat Description / Background
============================================================================

The 30 dTon Ship's Boats are high performance transfer craft carried by
large vessels. The high cost and low capacity makes the craft most
utilized by military, police, and customs forces as well as for high end
passenger transfers.

The standard configuration contains a small cabin, 2 passenger couches,
and 3.2 dTons of cargo space.

The passenger/cargo configuration substitutes 4 passenger couches for the
small cabin. This version is typically used by military/customs patrols
for inspections. Passenger couches can also be fitted into the cargo hold
on an ad hoc basis for military uses, but doing so strains the life
support systems unless the occupants are wearing vac suits.

The passenger configuration increases the number of passenger couches to 10
but reduces the cargo hold to a scant 1.2 dTons. This version is also
popular with the military and customs forces.

============================================================================
Slow Boat Description / Background
============================================================================

The 30 dTon Ship's Boat also come in "Slow Boat" configurations with
acceleration reduced to 3G's but increased cargo capacity. These
configurations are typically used by the private sector.

The standard configuration includes the standard small cabin, 2 passenger
couches, and 8.4 dTons of cargo space.

The passenger/cargo configuration substitutes 4 passenger couches for
the small cabin. This configuration is the most commonly purchased
slow boat.

An oddity is the uncommonly purchased "suite transfer" configuration.
This version is intended as a VIP or executive leisurely transport and
contains 6 passenger couches (for staff), a large executive suite,
and a scant 2 tons of cargo carried in what is little more than a passageway.
Some sub planetary governments on lower tech worlds purchase this versions
as yachts for their leaderships. A good example is the opulent version
purchased by Lingdonsland, an insular and isolationist country on Alief
before Alief was designated a Red Zone.

============================================================================
Pinnace Description / Background
============================================================================

The 40 dTon Pinnaces are rather impractical small craft for anything other
than a government organization due to its high cost and relatively low
cargo capacity. The Rivensh Pinnaces offered by Ling Standard Products
reflect the marketing towards the military and government organizations
with their high performance and long range sensors. A cranked arrow
wing improves atmospheric performance considerably, and the Rivensh
Pinnaces are popular with flight crews for their fighter like agility
and acceleration.

The standard configuration with its small cabin, 2 passenger couches,
and 5.1 dTons of cargo is commonly used for scouting, inspection, patrol,
and fighter/strike command and control. Passenger couches can be fitted
on an adhoc basis in the cargo hold. Fuel is contained in the wing
and also in tanks running along the belly of the pinnace.

The passenger/cargo configuration is a bit more practical for operating
close to a base with 4 passenger couches substituted for the small cabin.
This version is popular for customs inspections since a fire team can
be carried in the 6 passenger couches.

The passenger configuration increases the passenger capacity to 14 but
reduces the cargo capacity to a scant 1.1 dTons.

============================================================================
Slow Pinnace Description / Background
============================================================================

Using the Rivensh Pinnace as a springboard, the architects at Ling
Standard Products created a version of the 40 dTon Pinnace designed
to be more palatable to commercial interests by dropping the acceleration
to 2G, reducing the sensor range slightly, and increasing the cargo
capacity to 16.8 dTons. The fuselage has been lengthened and flattened
slight with all fuel now carried in the wings.

The standard configuration comes with a small cabin and 2 passenger couches.

The passenger/cargo configuration substitutes 4 passenger couches for the
small cabin.

--- Notes ---

It's amazing how little cargo/passenger space is available in the
standard T20 small craft designs compared to CT/MT designs. Using higher
tech designs would help somewhat, but there would still be less available
space in the T20 designs.

All of the T20 designs include a small cabin for some reason, which seems
wasteful for orbital work.

I did versions of the pinnace and slow pinnace inspired by the illustrations
in the Traveller's Handbook, but I didn't like the end result much so I went
with a design inspired by the pinnace deckplans from Traders and Gunboats
as well as the illustrations in the Imperial Encyclopedia.

Ron,

Love your work! I've downloaded all of your plans and will try to use them as much as possible ...

Is there any chance of asking you to do the deckplans for a custom design my PCs are using? It's a 120-dton racing yacht (modified for intelligence work) and the stats are online at:
Speed Demon - Modifier Monster Class Insertion Vessel
Thanks for the kind words.

Sure, there's a good chance of me doing the plans, particularly since you are from Sydney (my wife and I went there on our honeymoon). Please send/post the T20 stats (in terms of space consumed by each component) after I finish the patrol cruiser).
