Layout question for these forums

Why in most forums on this site is the page layout set to a width where you only have to scroll down to read the entire message, but on a few you also have to scroll from left to right and back again to read everything?

Did I accidently change a setting on an ocasional forum thread? If so where do I go to change it back? I even set my display to a higher resolution and set font size to smallest and still have to scroll sideways to read everything in a few threads. The funniest part is this changes from thread to thread in the same forum. Can anyone shed some technical light on the subject?

I don't think it's any setting you can control locally. The three cases of this I see are a long user name causing the "Author" frame to go wider, a wide table using the "code" function pushing the text frame wider, and a badly posted url (please use the "url" code) in the text causing that frame to run way out.

Yup! Those are the only reasons I have seen for a thread to go wwwwiiiiddddeeee. It is especially obvious when you are watching a thread, it's fine, then Mal posts a star table, or Flight Commander Solitude jumps on.
