Leif Ericson Scoutship

I have the poster and it's VERY nice. I am a huge fan of the Mote in God's Eye and the Empire of Man, and the LE is meant to be the smallest ship possible of independent operation - which I guess would be a Cruiser.

I've been real tempted to do 'er up in 3ds max and have it spit out the very precise hull volume.

Generally, the term for the smallest independent operating ship is a corvette. Cruisers are extended range and the smallest ships of the line.

given the listed mass of 18,000T, that's roughly 1800Td±300. Puts her in CTBk2/SST terms a cruiser... in Bk5/MT terms, she's an escort

3d max

It would be great for a traveller fan to do a 3dmax view of the poster and model. I did my numbers based on the stats from those that had analyzed it but modelers not gamers.

The starbird was bad to the bone, way ahead of its time electronically.

I have run several missions with the scout ship and the Ericsson now on Orbiter, including some very nice close to ground "barnstorming".

I can get from VTOL launch to TLI/Moon Orbit ok ( flight program needs tweaking) But Mars... MAybe titan will be next...

Excellent.

Excellent. What tonnage did you go for? In comparison to a 2k or 5k vessel a 120dt works nicely. This deviates from the posters which looks like 50dt. So I've done numerous LE's and scoutships. I was planning on putting them on my game page. But here is the 120dt scoutship.

I had eyed the LE at 1400dt. Reviewing the poster lead me to 1665dt to 2k. And of course there are some volume descriptions assuming its 5k. For smaller LEs a 50dt designed scout or this 120dt for the larger.

Description: Cormorants class scoutships we're an early entry into space flight providing Explorer class ships with support. 2 configurations we're predominate. 1) a scout vessel 2) a scout fighter. The ships cabins we're on a lower deck under the bridge. A narrow tunnel allows quick access to engineering, gunnery, cargo and the vehicle bay. The scout version varied depending on captain preference. Most we're short crewed when assigned to cruisers. Often the cargo areas would contain a 2nd vehicle or seating for passengers when it acted as a shuttle. Scoutships are capable of water landings, takeoff and submerged travel. Landing legs expand as lowered and rarely need to be fully extended to support the ship. The intention was to support the vessel in rough terrain. Water landing is also within specifications.

On The Mark

. For smaller LEs a 50dt designed scout or this 120dt for the larger.

Not as much a gearhead as most but those numbers look right, I might tweak such a bit at my end to try and shave 20 tons off to stay in a canon 100 ton range.

Just to avoid any confusion, the LE Scoutship may operate as a scout vessel for the larger LE itself in it's AMT universe but IMTU I have the craft depicted as a gunship-transport rather than in the role of a traditional scout vessel.

I found the LE Scoutship's clean lines and unique profile to be a sexy well armed rapid deployment-covert operations insertion craft, akin to say an SR-71 Blackbird with the mission capacities of a V-22 Osprey. I gave the ship the designation Wyvern in light of it's batlike 'winged' appearance and it's sting in the 'tail', that said it does more resemble a duck more than much else.

Now just to work out if I want the vehicle bay to handle mission specific modules, an idea I'm toying with to expand the ship's range of tasks and applications.

Ahh...

The good old days. When I started looking through this thread I kept thinking "wow, that looks like something I had as a kid" and here I find out it is, though again, in the groovy glow in the dark, version two. Damned nice to realize that there are more my age on this board than I thought. It does rock and I forgot how cool it looked. Thanks.

I would also like to say thanks for the links that led to the INSS MacArthur, as I too am a big "Mote in God's Eye" fan and seeing the ship was most cool, not quite how I had pictured her, but damned cool none the less. Though I do wonder where are the booms that extend past the black globe?

Now where's the thread for the 'Space 1999' Eagle? Another ship that I totally dig.

Welll... not to be obnoxious but....

Baron,
http://www.angelfire.com/empire2/sa...esigns/S1999_Eagle_Transport_shuttle_T20.html

I did the Hawk too but they're both a few years old now. And LOS...
and sure superswift, moonbuggies.. tanks.

Patron Zero... no shaving required. 20% it the canon rule for hull designs + or -. But I kept to the rules for once. If its my campaign the ship would have a few few extras with that 20dt. For example, Point Defense. Oh right... fighter...was working on a bomber too. At TL12 modular is important. I named them for the birds that like fishing...Cormorants but do what you wish with it. I find it humorous we're all working on it.

I gave in...

Merrill design

Yes I think the Merrill design works well and is the basics for my specs. I have cosmographer now... it just calling to me.

Baron, I suspect the Solomani design would win by a fluke or ram the AHL.
