Lull?

I would say yes to this one, no lull as Traveller's selling well for Mongoose.

And give the mods headaches, well sales of Nurofen has rocketed ;)

See, I kinda think that you're trying to get this thread locked by being contentious and pissy. I don't want that to happen, so I think I'll just decline the invitation to respond to these snippy, petty little personal attacks. (Huh...maybe I've grown...)

Nor will I respond to further pleas to stop being mean to MGT.

OTOH, if you have any substantive, specific criticisms about my posts, I'll respond to them.

I did, but you only chose to quote this part of the post and curiously ignored the rest of my post where I was asking you what you actually expect to achieve with all this criticism. And I am still curious to know what you expect your constant criticism of MGT to accomplish, do you suddenly expect Mongoose to write a new edition just for you or something? But I guess that will have to wait for another thread where you can get on your soapbox again.

And frankly, nobody has asked you to "stop being mean to MGT", all I asked you to do was to start being constructive with your criticism and stop being so churlish about it all. We'll see if you really have "grown" next time you decide to opine about MGT again.

Errr.....PM's please - I dont like writing in red but can do if that will help.

No. Not even close. Ty and S4 *together* come nowhere near the "Turn it up to 11" venom that ruled the Traveller Mailing List in the early 90's and which left the online Traveller community an exhausted wreck in general.

Boy, you can say that again!

One of the things I love about the CotI forums is that, after being a veteran of the TML flamewars, I think this place is pretty pleasant and calm. I like it here. Most people are rather nice and helpful.

I was part of the mass exodus from the TML, and I've never looked back.

The issue for me is that the new Traveller rules, which do represent a change to get new blood into the game, are Munged. I'm sorry but these fellows just can't seem to turn out a quality product. And to have them give the treatment to Traveller, of all games! It's as if they announced a remake of Blade Runner written & directed by and starring Carrot Top. Afterwards people would raise their eyebrows if you said that you were into Blade Runner.

Yup.

Guys, could you do me a favour (and others reading this thread) and take it to PM's please.

Sounds good to me.

sorry that last post probably came across as me starting the argument again when I didn't really intend it as such. It was really more intended as "you didn't actually answer my points but it can wait til next time" but was probably more snippy than I meant it to be. Either way I'm done with this now, sorry again.

That's an interesting question. I was asked the same question at a local gameday about this time at last year. One of my regular con Traveller players felt that few online Traveller websites are updating anymore.

Admittedly, I haven't been updating recently. With the death of my father, followed by my mother two weeks later with my sister in the hospital in between, I've really had to switch around my priorities.

Well, I know why *I* stopped updating, and it has quite a lot to do with where I decided to host. Then an employment change, move across the state, and one of my periodic shifts in interest. I always come back to Traveller, but there are months or years when it is a pretty low priority in the scheme of things. Even hobby things.

I'm feeling the urge to expand the site again, and that's going to require a move. I've been offered a spot in one of the big collective Traveller sites, but I dislike the idea of having someone else between me and my site.

I'm also not entirely convinced that the collective sites are a good thing. The people who create stuff for this game are being concentrated in a few places, so you get the appearance of less updating even if the amount of new material isn't slowing.

There is also the recent explosion in boards like this one. Dig around on this board a bit and you will find a lot of good stuff. Stuff that would have ended up on a personal website somewhere normally. The Gallery is only the most obvious part of it. I like CotI for its cross-edition manifesto, and worry about what the sunsetting of Hunter's license will do to this board, but like the collective sites the boards like CotI are absorbing more than a few of those personal website updates.

So yeah, the landscape of personal Traveller sites looks awfully moribund.

Keep the faith, the Traveller SRD/OGL is coming from Mongoose. When it arrives there will be a great outpouring of 3rd party publications that will draw the teaming masses (lost and confused by D20 4ed) to 'The Game'.

They will come for Mongoose Traveller, but they will - one by one - stumble upon Classic Traveller. Soon a great cry will go forth from the teaming masses to bring back the LITTLE BLACK BOOK! We will once again see those little books with the rusty staples and center pages that fall out no matter how many times you tape them.

... and we will all ask
"What the heck was the attraction of this stupid format?"

:) Well, it could happen.

That's good to hear. Your website was one of the first I discovered online along with Zhodani base. Got me to post my mental meanderings on Traveller.

Yes, Traveller is a lull but then again it always has been since about the demise of MT when every month one was assured Traveller goodness on a monthly basis from Challenge (don't quote me on that last bit...I always found Challenge a hodge podge). Until we can get regular content in front of people's eyes Traveller will be in a lull. With advent of MonTrav, there is a hope that it will stop its deadfall and resume a regular orbit...for reaction in the local gamestores has been mixed. The Black Cover does promote the curious to crack it open but only the vets know the name Traveller.

I am really hoping that the Spinward Marches will generate more interest with its crackjack cover and excellent writing. Otherwise, Mongoose should invest some effort into some advertising. However, I also hope the OGL will give boyancy to the overall Traveller effort.
