Military Uniforms from the OTU

Not really.

A properly fitted helmet ALWAYS transfers energy to the head, and/or the shoulders. Usually lengthening the time (and thus reducing the energy per unit time, and spreading it out a lot (thus reducing the energy per unit area.)

And, having worn some helmets that rested on my shoulders, they were not an issue in simulated melee... and having taken some head hits that physically moved my body, it didn't damage the neck. It transferred a lot to the shoulder.

In particular I am talking about the elaborate coal scoop design such as in Mithras' composite picture (Traveller Digest 9 to be exact). Any bullet or shell fragment hitting the lower edge, the overhang would act as a lever, breaking the wearer's neck or if loose fitting rotating down and transfering the force of the impact. Motorcycle helmets are deadly to a wearer if not snug fitting, modern military helmets the same today afaik, construction hard hats not, though their loose fit is part of their protect (mostly due to vertical impact direction protection).

Yes, despite not really being into ST, I've spent along time on that website! I wish someone could put those blurry B&W illustrations I posted into that kind of format. I want to see the uniforms of the 3i!

Years ago I did this for the IN IMTU ... though quite a few disagree with my colour choice. (There are links there for IN insignia, ranks and medals.)

But I must admit to liking the vertical stripe and other details on the Marine Guard uniform above.

One of my Traveller GMs brought that in at our last session for reference.

Helmets with a large overhang would be neck breaking if hit; or if loose, the force of the impact would be transfered to the head as the overhang slammed down. IMTU helmets have a holographic HUD in their face plates similar to how combat aircraft do it today.

I face plate in Battle dress or Combat Armor yeah I can see a full faceplate HUD. Walking around in just a open face helmet I can see a HUD monocle or eye protection dropping down from withing the helmet.

If anyone wants to see the ergonomics of a helmet look at the MICH or ACH
helmets. You can actually see the integrated camera, IR Lights and built in commo etc.. in the new models being issued.

Agrred, I envision the helmets being semi-modular, you could remove the faceplate, but integrated; dismantling a helmet would be for an armorer with electronics skill with all the comm gear, PLSS etc. .
