Do folks here use any miniatures rules for Traveller ship combat? What are your experiences with them, your likes, dislikes, and want-to-haves?

Power Projection: Fleet and Power Projection: Escort.

Like:
- Simple 1d6 system at heart.
- Vector movement.
- Can handle actions by large warships better than HG can.
- Miniatures are available: http://estore.genreconnections.com/searchresults.asp?cat=54
- Very good Zhodani ship designs. ;)

Dislike:
- Very large ships kinda break the scale and make play cumbersome. Best played with ships up to cruiser size.
- Low granularity.
- Sand clouds are handled in a rather awkward fashion, but there's an optional rule

Recommend: Yes. It's recently gone OOP, though.

Which ever one I am running.

Well, at first it was all Book 2, all the time. Made sense as that was all I had. Dabbled a smidge in MT and T4. And before I traded it to my friend in the Ranger's (1/75) I ran some Traveller: 2300 (yeah, I kick it old school like that).

Now, of course I use Traveller5 rules and I have am having the Void's own time of trying to get Range Bands (which I do so love from CT Personal Combat) to work on a hex map with miniatures. And by Gods above, I use miniatures!

*And a moment of silence for those fallen Grenadier Imperial Marines now MIA, presumed KIA, along with the ancient Map of the Near Earth Stars and the cool flywheel powered LASERs*

*Now a joyous celebration that my Space Fleet is five ships strong, Thank you, My Patron!*

I don't use miniatures much when playing Traveller space combats, but I also don't do big fleet stuff. Usually, it's only a ship or two per side. I use the standard MgT rules with some personal interpretations.

Now having said that, I *do* play space combat games that aren't Traveller, and Starmada is probably my favorite of them. (Full Thrust is great too, but Starmada tickles my fancy a bit more.) I've see Traveller conversions for Starmada (And Starmada: Fleet Ops, which is a less detailed games), but since Starmada's a wargame at heart, there's not a lot of room for characters to add their skills to the mix.

I almost never use minis, period.

Counters, sure. Counters using minis rules on occasion.
