Missile fix

Mongoose High Guard did address this partly, by allowing the multi head missiles at the cost of a slower range time.

1D6 1D6s does equal a bigger punch for the same size package.
 
For it's *tiny* size, the Mongoose missile does a tremendous amount of damage, plus, it has 10 thrust (10 G) for ten turns. Go Google or Wikipedia for the sizes and masses of common air-to-air missiles. I've had to lift some in RL...

Yeah, missile launch tubes make more sense. See:VLS. One suspects that the game designer did not want to violate the 1 mount/100 tons rule. Otherwise, you would get AEGIS/porcupine ships... :)
 
Looking at MGT Core Rules
Missile does 1d6 damage
Nuclear Missile does 2d6 damage + Crew Hit
Pulse Laser does 1d6 damage
Beam Laser does 2d6 damage

See that as per Changes to the Core Rule Book, In HG page 47 (at least in LBB vresion, large book may vary page number), the damages for pulse and beam lasers are swaped, Beam lasers does 1d6 damage and pulse laser does 2d6 (but has a -2 DM to hit).

In any case, they still comapre favorabily against missiles, not using ammunition and not being stoppable by other weapons...

The CT lasers did 1 hit; CT missiles did 1d6 hits.
Later CT pulse lasers rolled twice to hit, at a penalty, and missiles got to add +1 hit per 300mm total vector difference. Which said, it made the missile worth the expense. And nukes can do up to 100 hits.

MGT, the missiles are ONLY for the broke - there's no logical reason to install them as weapons† when lasers do the same or better damage.

† Tho' as a means for launching messages and/or as ROV's, sure.

Plus they take up space that could be used for armour, extra fuel or even small craft, to be fair there are heavy missiles (torpedo's), bur they take up 2.5 tons of space each! The Plasma torpedo from TCS is quite good at 3d6 damage and ignores 3 points of armour, a salvo of them would be quite useful
