Mommy, where does the Hydrogen go when we Jump?

Your sensors detect endless copies of your own ship, from all directions, as the range of your sensors is far larger than the universe. In fact looking out a porthole you might just be able to make out the sight of your own ship, through the plasma. And as the universe is so small there is a limit to how much energy your ship should put out.

But yeah, thats pretty much how I run Jumpspace.

SOUNDS LIKE JUMP MADNESS! CLOSE THE FORWARD BLAST SCREENS BEFORE WE'RE ALL AFFECTED!!

I couldn't resist.

Mommy, where does the Hydrogen go when we Jump?

It goes to Helium son. Where it meets John Carter and Dejah Thoris and has a wonderful adventure.

I like the Barsoom option  Although as I recall the excess hydrogen not used to generate power was used to cool the reactor and vented before the jump. The power was stored in the jump drive (which consists of a specialized fusion plant and a lot of high tech batteries) and fed into the lanthanum grid in a specific pattern to achive the desired jump. IIRC this was the explanation from MT... I have to dig up my copy of the handbook DGP put out on starship operations to doublecheck, but it made sense at the time.
