Mood music needed

I suggest Aphex Twin, Selected Ambient Works I and II, for tension building / sense of wonder - your "Strange environs / Derelik / Alone in the Void" maybe...

Orbital, "In Sides"

Includes the track PETROL, from one of the Wipeout soundtracks (PS futuristic racing game) - Wipeout soundtracks could work for "arriving at the spaceport"

Leftfield's "Leftism" for frantic urban scenes

Kavisnky, because they sound like the soundtrack to any number of 80s pulp action films (straight to video) / TV series (that were axed after the pilot)

Imperial Marines attack - "Funky Sh*t" (the Prodigy)

OR: just stick on some Wagner all night...

From deep left field

The soundtrack to my campaigns is very heavy on dub regge. It's mostly instumental and has a spacy atmosphere that I think fits with flying around the void. And there nothing better to convey the anarchic feel of a C or D class port, where references to big shiny ports like Mora or Glisten is likely to provoke cries of "Babylon!"

Yep, there are a few very nice tracks among them - I'd give the links to fellow artists a look, too. Nitrodemus f.e. has a few great tracks.

Not particularly my idea of Traveller mood music but I've just noticed that The Lord Weird Slough Feg Traveller album has turned up on iTunes.
Bit heavy for my taste but I had to get it anyway -if only for the great cover.

No. It would appeal to my 'Inner Joker", particularly if I'm running a scenario with 'familar characters'. Of course with my group-they are so familar that ploy they are hard to trip up.

My wife liked to employ mood music while running Chill(Pacesetter) & Teenagers From Outer Space.

A tangent question to the topic if you don't mind me derailing your thread a bit...

Does anyone else worry about using recognizable scores because the players may be distracted, tending to relive the movie scene (for example) associated with a piece, either in the way they play their characters or by launching into a reverie of "what a great scene that was" and totally forgetting about the game?

Just curious :)

Another anime soundtrack that suits Traveller (due to a strong Naval theme to much of the show) is for Last Exile.

The series is also excellent, but that's not the topic at hand.

The tracks associated with EVE Online have already been mentioned, I see. There are several of those on my Favorite Tracks list, and several would provide the right sound for the "Alone in the Void" theme item.

Arriving in a Spaceport/Meeting an Old Friend:
- A Morning in Norkia, To the Race, and Brave Willing (Last Exile OST #1)

Attack (Space Battles):
- Chivalry Spirits, Advances, and Vanishing Point (Last Exile OST #1)
- Hero (Paranoia Agent OST)
- Fundamentum (Lesiem, on Mystic Spirit Voices)
- Speed (Bond, on Shine)
- Battle without Honor or Humanity (Tomoyasu Hotei, Kill Bill Soundtrack #1, or his own "Electric Samurai")

Derelict/Alone in the Void:
- Heaven & Hell Part 1, Symphony #11, and The Sea Named Solaris (Soundtrack to "Cosmos")
- Amongst The Ruins (Delerium, on Poem)
- and most of the EVE Online stuff

Vargr Corsair Strike Team:
- Exposed (Appleseed (2006) OST)
- Knuckle of Fire (Bubblegum Crisis 2 OST)
