Movies that feel like traveller.

A film starring Rutger Hauer the title of which I can't remember. It was set in an apocalyptic future where the focus of society was a game played with dog skulls. I've used the plot in a lost colony setting.

Blood of Heroes? I love post-apocalyptic movies, but that one... well, isn't really at the top of my list. :)

One GM I knew in loved WW2 movies, and we had a whole game that was based on a blend of The Dirty Dozen, Guns of Navarone, and a bit of Kelly's Heroes.

Was a lot of fun, even though we never made it offplanet and had a fairly high casualty rate. :)

Any Kurosawa film can be used for Aslans.

That's interesting since George Lucas claimed he based a lot of ideas for Star Wars off of Kurosawa's movies. Hidden Fortress for parts of Star Wars IV. Even to the point of stealing exact scenes. The cantina scene when Obi-Wan cuts off the alien's arm in Star Wars IV was almost an exact duplicate of a scene in Seven Samurai - which was of course redone as a western called the Magnificent Seven.

I suggest we avoid 'the quality of Mercenary'... :smirk:

Ahhh, had me doing a "what is he smoking" there for a minute :)

If I may abuse the Bard...

The quality of mercenary is not train'd,
It droppeth as the hard rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath. It is twice blast:
It blasteth him that gives and him that takes.

meh

M-66 Black Magic Military themes, Android, not AI
Appleseed High/Low tech, check out the books.
Tank Police Amusing, tainted atmospere.
Patlabor Plots, Megacorps, etc.
Ghost in the shell High level politics, commandos, cops, shake well and serve.

Most of these are the work of Shirow Masamune, I stand in awe of his artwork and storytelling skills.

All of it has a gritty feel, gogs in the machine trying to make a difference themes, , triumph of the individuals heroism.

First guess would be "Salute of the Jugger". Second guess would be the episode "Eating Pattern" from season 1 of Lexx. I think you mean the former but I've had more than one campaign that bears a striking resemblance to the latter.

i suppose lensman is a bit to much? Very Cool IMHO, too bad they never finished the next movie. EE Doc Smiths universe IS SPACE OPERA in capital letters.

galaxy express? hoary old chesnut, throw it back in the fire
Nuisica and the valley of the wind That and Laputa for a wtf did we find here set of ideas, not hard to see an ancients storyline, not grandfather but some other race of forerunners.

A fun SF remake of The Seven Samurai: Battle Beyond the Stars (a.k.a. "John-boy in Space")

Space Hunter

An old light-hearted affair: Moon Pilot

TL0: Caveman with Ringo Starr

Hey, how about this one?

Anyone remember a movie called "Quintet"? (I think). It starred Roy Thinnes (the guy from The Invaders 60s SF show).

Earth is frozen solid and resources are getting real thin. Quintet is also a board game where at certain points, only pieces on 'safe' spaces advance to the next, smaller board. Of course, there can only be one winner...

Anyway, people in groups of 5 start killing each other to get their supplies. Our hero survives and as the movie ends, he is heading NORTH. Everyone thinks he is crazy...but he saw migrating birds.

This would be a great late MT story, with the Doom Trade factored in. Just guessing at it, since I don't have Hard Times.

Another cop show some might remember is called "Space Precinct."

TWO cops on a space station somewhere...typical police drama but with the occasional reminder that they weren't in Kansas...
