Okay, here we go again... different topic, seen several like it with people posting different selections etc. So I decided why not poll it, since its been a topic in Lonestar/ Random static.

This comprise of several questions, and to be "fair and balanced" a "none of the above/no opinion" answer column will be provided for the truly undecided.

A warning: Beyond the initial question Do you use music as background aura for your Trav game sessions, and you answer no- check None of above answer please.

That was strnage - summarising my response -

I tend to have music playing the background. Not to add atmosphere, just to make things friendlier.

What kind of music - All sorts. Everything from Black Sabbaths greatest hits through to enigma and everything else while I'm there.

About the only type of music I haven;t played is rap - I never found some I liked.

My apologies for choice of words. Music to lend atmosphere/ an aura of "being there"/ getting in tune with the moment in the adventure..sort of running your own Holo-play (you Provide setting/ players do their own lines, music melds it together, something like that.. ;)

MUSIC is essential but keep it low and in the background.

My suggestions:
Wagner, Das Reinhold for mundane scenes
Offe, Carmina Burna the villian's entrance
Williams, Imperial March: approach of the Imperial Dreadnaught
Williams, Battle of Duels

Assorted electronica for alien locales.

But, be ready to alternate to keep players on their toes.

I actually use a combination of music - classical, movie and t.v. soundtrack, electronica and new age jazz, with a bit of industrial and ska for urban scenes and a little spice.

One thing I don't like about these polls is that you can only choose one option per question...

Why is it that music from the Grand Old Opry just dont mix with Traveller!!!!

Hank williams - Your Cheatin heart will tell on you.....

Patsy cline - wayward wind ----

You forgot some of the great Johnny Cash balleds!

Some of my favorites music for gaming is usually tv/movie soundtracks, especially classical styles.

Major sources for me:
John Williams (Star Wars, Jaws, etc)
Christopher Franke (Babylon 5)
James Horner (Titanic, Aliens, Willow, etc)

On the rare occasion if the scenes warrents music like Neil Young ("Keep on Rockin' in the Free World") or Guns'n'Roses ("You could be mine"). These two are great for chases or big battles.

Finally the Farscape and Lexx soundtracks do have some great pieces. If you can find the mp3s of several choral pieces from Farscape. These are fantastic! When I heard them I actually thought they were classical pieces.

I recommend several of the Lexx tracks for some light listening. Also the Brunin-Gee fight song is a great fight song! :D

Additional:

If you can find them. The soundtracks to the original Spacecruiser Yamato series and movies. In the US it was marketted as Starblazers.

The Comet Empire theme(Bach fugue style) and Deslok's Theme(Classical meets bongos) are some of the best piece. The Funeral derge from Final Yamato is the perfect piece for the memorial service of a fallen hero or the send off of an old and honored warship.

And mercy for a group that gets stranded on a planet where groups like the Backstreet Boys, Marc Anthony, and Britney Spears are considered the peak of cultural and artistic achievement.

Tried with a different Poll, and things got real screwy, Milord. Tried to keep it focused and narrow. My apologies if it was less than adequate.

Well, I decided not to vote as I would need an "all of the above" as I have used everything on those lists at one time or another.

</font>[/QUOTE]Not your fault, I think it's the software, or at least the configuration, on the server end of things. I'll suck it up and deal, especially since I can clarify in my posts what I really mean.

Fairly answered. Thank you Ld Irial!

Yeah, I needed an "All of the Above" choice, too, because my music mix is highly eclectic. I've even used some country and rap. Well, actually rock-rap.

One song I found that the players really enjoyed during space combat -- "Rock the Casbah" by the Clash.
