OK. A couple of things. One, CT canon states (paraphrasing here) that ALL companies engaging in interstellar trade must be chartered by the Imperium. Therefore, it is prudent to assume that the Ministry of Trade and Finance (my name for it) would have a registry of chartered financial entities recognised by the Imperium available. It would probably be updated annually (banks do go bust). In order for Bank ABC to recognize a letter of credit from Bank XYZ, Bank XYZ would HAVE to be in that registry.
Two. Large lines(those above a few dozen ships or so) would definitely have "expense accounts" set up with the Class A or B starports (maybe even C) along their routes for routine service. Likewise for all major corporations within that subsector or sector.
Three. Although not stated in canon, I'm sure that there is a "Pan-Imperial Bank" with multitudinous branches throughout the Imperium, probably with offices at all TAS locations and major starports (specifically A & B). (I think you even get a free toaster for opening up an account, and don't forget to ask about their Christmas club account.)
"What do you mean I'm overdrawn Cr 5,000,000,000? I just made a deposit last week!"
