New Campaign input needed

Thuffer

SOC-4
So I've had my CT cd for a couple of weeks now and a campaign idea is starting to form. After a few sessions I intend to throw a government subsidy the players way in the form of a 600 ton economic exploration vessel. They'll be one of several companies given cart blanche to explore into a sector that has remained uncontacted for a significant period of time. Most of the worlds with populations will run the range between stoneage and just shy of jump capable. I'm going to be pulling a lot of ideas from the Dutch East India company. I've been looking over the traveller map and found that if I follow it I'll have the players based out of the Julian Protectorate. Elsewise it'll just have to be IMTU. I have little problem with either option. Any suggestions for the Julian Procterorate option. Any suggestions for the campaign as a whole? Thanks in advance.

Can you say Trade War. This includes scouting territory, securing markets, growing the business. Along with poor markets, trade negotiations going bad, cheating rivals, Pirates, intersteller geopolitics, and any other troubles players find themselves into wine, sex and guns!

Oh without a doubt when it comes to trade competition and conflict. At first the various companies will go at it willy nilly but will likely not compete outright. Once the real gold pot planets are identified though that will be out the window. I figure competition for trade contracts with local governments and tribal leaders through under cutting lies etc will become common in short order.

There will be several occasions where the locals will be willing to make a snatch at the treasure from the sky gods. Buying a second and later other ships will be a big move and they'll have to out compete some companies with deep pockets who already may have several ships.

Pirates are also a definite. Once the first gold ships come back loaded they'll hear of it and will be waiting. Traders down on their luck at first quickly followed by organized cutthroats. I'm looking forward to having them run the gauntlet through a few bottleneck systems on every return trip with a rather high percentage of some pirate encounter. There may also be occassion for competitors to band together to battle the pirates as I think the navy will be reticent to go into the frontier due to legalities and budget issues.

I'm going to have a general map of systems already which will be due to a survey by the scout service who will still be present to observe the goings on as well to keep the government informed of any real dangerous activity. I'd really like to see one world maybe populated with Aslan who lost their technology and adopted a feudal japanese type of society. Add players and guns and you've got a slice of history.

While you look like having enough ideas yet, have a look at adventure 4 Leviathan.

have fun

Seconded.

Detail some of the crew of rival ships, for use as adversaries and, later, grudging partners if they find a problem that's bigger than them.

Nice. Stating the rivalcrews and naming them as recurring characters is a real nice touch. Grabbing adventure 4 now!:):
