New SyFy show tonight.

Mind with what the SyFy (then-SciFi) Channel did to their interpretation of Dune back in 2000, I don't expect much with Ascension other than pretty people in attractive surroundings.

Well, I gave up on it after the first 35 minutes. I'm not a fan of stories where people's lives and their society are fine and dandy for years and years until the viewing audience tunes in. After which, every character's life goes into full-on turmoil mode. And no one trusts each other and then the killing sprees happen, etc.

Reminded me of that show with the giant dome over a town. Forget the name of it. And the other show in St. Louis with the terraformed Earth. And of course, the BSG reboot which I didn't really mind all that much.

Occasionally the SyFy Channel has what sounds like a good idea until it's application is observed, case in point; drive-up windows at liquor stores.

Gah - I had little hope for it and forgot to watch it, so thanks for the review. I had hopes for that St. Louis show, and was disappointed, but no hopes for the Dome.

Its odd how professional writers can take a great idea for a show and drive it straight into an iceberg.

It's pretty bad when I can think of much better characters and plots while watching such shows. I lose interest real quick.

The sad part is the SyFy Channel takes what are promising ideas for programs and then squishes out something that is so banal and mundane it makes one's eyes bleed from exposure.

It's so sad how the 21 century has become the Age of Drama in television shows. I've tried Smallville, Arrow, Fallen Skies and Walking Dead only to shut them down when it's apparent the themes are mere window dressing for a bunch of people with legendary personal issues more unbelievable than the sci fi or horror surrounding them. At least The Flash has a more happy go lucky attitude to offset any drama points.

This is why I prefer my collections of shows like George Reeves Superman, the70's Battlestar, the original Star Trek or even Sliders.

What's really sad is that the SciFi Channel should be a place to go to get great science fiction, from bold, exciting new shows to favorites from the past. Just changing the name of the station to "SyFy" an keeping the same old low-budget junk isn't going to do it.

I should be able to see re-runs of all five Star Trek shows, Babylon 5, both versions of Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Space Above and Beyond, and a ton of other TV series plus a lot of movies from the present dating back to to early TV.

In addition, there should be quality science fiction programming happening there.

Here I am, a huge science fiction buff, and I can't remember the last time I tuned in to the SyFy Channel.

It really is sad.

Oh god in heaven that is a bad show! Not only did the "we are not in space" twist telegraph itself from last months ago but the whole thing is just pretty people behaving badly with the usual stock characters of intrigue. Sad.

So many really, really good series get cancelled all the time for no plausible reason other than they must be so good they are threatening or something to the mediocrity of the usual drivel-peddlers. You could've paid for half a season or more of Firefly for what this stupid show cost! Aaaaaahhhhhhhh, the Philistines!
