Just experimenting with ship design outputs for posting to COTI. I intend to generate an output that can be cut n pasted straight into a post. Just gotta figure out what that might look like. First two attempts, might play with the table options later.

The large gap between the text and the table appears to be a bug. The table inserts new lines equal to the number of rows --- perhaps because the newline character is outside the last tag on each line?

There is also a [tc] tag that takes an option. I tried [tc="red"] and [tc="bold"], neither did anything. I also tried [th], but no. What does "tc" represent? Is there a reference or users guide?

Bold tags work (ie: b and closing /b in square brackets can be cut n pasted)

[tc=red]Trying the tc option and giving it a color (tc = text color?), does something weird... I kinda like it, but its a little random.[/tc]

All three of bold, underline and italics can be implemented with tags. They don't seem to add a lot though.

Ok, after all that, I think the following works and it should work for both Bk2 and Bk5. It uses no tricks and looks good using common fonts like Times New Romon, Lucida, Arial, Tahoma (tested in MS word). This allows straight forward cut n paste into anything you want, be it game aids or web sites. Some fonts look even better and some worse as they cause the columns to be misaligned.

I'll knock this out over the couple of weeks. Any thoughts or improvements in the meantime, gratefully received.

Hi Matt,

I design my ships in Excel, as it does the math for me, but when I've copied them into a post it looks awful, can you do a workthrough for converting excel
into easily readable posts please.

Thanks

David

Hey David, I have used Excel and OpenOffice for years including ship designers and pocket empires, which took two spreadsheets :) I published a solo campaign after that rather large effort here. A lot of fun.

This thread was started to figure out what was needed to make an online CT ship designer useful to COTI members, but I never needed this for my spreadsheets as they were for personal use only. Anytime I needed to post a design I cut n pasted text into notepad (or these days gedit) and tried to make it readable.

For tips, put the values on the left as they maintain columns easier and use a monospace font like Courier New to maintain your formatting.

If you are interested, take a look at this online ship designer. Whatever you knock up, there is a listing at the bottom of the page (based on this thread) that you can cut n paste for COTI use.

Do any of you guys have a good Mongoose ship designer? Ala Mongoose High Guard?

My main interest has always been CT. Once I'm happy with this builder though it would be fairy straight forward to bolt on other versions. But its not on my horizon.

I'll give it a go the next time I design a ship.
