Now THAT makes a difference ...

That's NOT SFB... You've confounded "Star Fleet Battle Manual" by Zocchi & Kurtic with "Star Fleet Battles" by Steven V Cole (Published by Task Force, and now by Amarillo Design Bureau). Different games.

You are correct in that. I do have a copy of Star Fleet Battles around somewhere. Task Force Games version. The game design class stuff came from Amarillo. I got the game from Lou at a convention in Chicago in the early 1970s.

My first experience with pen and paper starship combat was with Starfire. I still have the second edition boxed set in my games cabinet.

Simple, easy and loads of fun. Then the extra additions to the game started to make it overly complex.

Back about that time. We ran a naval themed Traveller campaign using Highguard. Worked well for us.

3rd revised is being rereleased in pdf... 2nd was good, 3rd's tactical is better, by being more streamlined, and it incorporates all the 2e supplementary materials' ship systems. current ed is 6th... 4th (and later) reworked the coding drastically.

I don't understand - why would there be a steam explosion from drinking hydrogen peroxide (H2O2 - H2O too).

Lots of chemical burns to the mouth and throat, and release of lots of oxygen gas, but steam explosion?

At high concentration, hydrogen peroxide produces vapors that are themselves explosive in air, creating water (as steam) and oxygen - I'm not entirely sure "explosive" is the right term for that reaction, but the effect is similar. Highly concentrated peroxide is used in some torpedoes and rockets as propulsion; Russians lost a sub to an explosion involving a torpedo fueled with hydrogen peroxide, as did the Brits. So, hypothetically it could "explode" at any point between the time it was served and the time it got to his mouth.

Ahh, so not a solution (like I use a lot), pure H2O2.

That would be very nasty indeed.

By the way - is there a reason for all the spam these days? Are the spam filters not working or is there a new generation of botniks?

Exterminatus?

Burn the heretics!

As there are times on the forum that I appear to be a "heretic", it would be helpful if you specific who you wish to burn.

A "heretic" is generally viewed as someone that refuses to accept or conform to orthodox dogma or canon.

Quoting Warhammer 40K mantra's there. Nuking from orbit is the least the Imperial Inquisition inflicts on perceived tainted worlds....

Far Trader's quote is from Aliens.

I'll second Starfire as a great space battle game, I still have I,II,III; in a folder, remember erasing through the paper? :)

thanks, McPerth... we don't get much thanks. It's really quite nice to hear some.
