One hardpoint per 75 dT

The problem is, Gray Lensman, is that you are misinterpreting the quote. It doesn't mean 100 400dt SDB's can defeat an 80,000 dt starship, they can individually beat a starship up to twice their size, in this case, for the 400dt example, they should be able to fight and beat an 800dt starship. Try designing an 800dt warship and fighting an individual 400dt SDB, or design a large warship, and a half-size SDB, and fight it out...

My personal workaround in my small ships TU is to allow military ships to mount barbettes as well as turrest.

A barbette being a 5t unit that effectively gives you one extra turret mount that doesn't cost one of your hardpoint allocation.

True, it's the same term used in High Guard for the small Particle Accelerator Weapons too, but they are not treated any differently (reduced angles of fire, reduced hardpoint requirement, or anything) than turrets. In fact "A barbette is similar to a turret, but larger." According to High Guard. I'm sure it influenced the illustrations to a degree but in the rules there is no difference.

It might not be a bad way to go, saying barbettes only take half a hardpoint, but then you have a lot of other designs that need fixing, instead of just the one. And you need a rule saying what the trade off is.

In my small ship universe I simply switched PAW barbettes with PAW turrets in terms of damage done and that solved the confusion about what the point of them was - other than the TL availability. I also require 2 crew per barbette as opposed to 1 for a turret. And like bays, barbette weapons can be switched around easily to accomodate torpedo launchers and energy weapons. They are a kind of poor man's bay weapon IMTU.

PA's do 4 hits under Bk2 as expanded by the earliest HG ships published... ;)

Really - where did you find that Aramis?

I don't recall seeing this anywhere and would love to find it to be canonical - it would solve a lot of problems coverting HG weapons to LBB2 for me.

Please please please tell me you can remember where it is.

Mike,

I believe it's in the JTAS article that introduced the Gazelle-class close escort.

As I wrote earlier in this thread, it's simple to 'port HG2's combat system into LBB:2. We know HG2's ranges correspond to Mayday hexes, 0-5 hexes is Short and 6-15 hexes is Long, and we also know the size of Mayday's hexes in kilometers. This means you can convert HG2's ranges into kilometers and then 'port them into LBB:2's[/]i millimeters.

That will allow you to use HG2 weapons and weapon tables within what will be primarily a LBB:2 game.

Regards,
Bill

I just looked up the Gazelle barbettes in JTAS and all it says is that they "act as heavy lasers per Book 2, +2DM to hit, and damage skewed towards crew and computer hits".

Aramis - I've never seen anything giving them "4 hits" and I have all the first editions going back to my much taped-up original copies. And my coveted first ed. HG.

Personally I always thought the Gazelle was a cheat - its a 300 ton ship and just because it has some really big gas cans strapped to it doesn't mean under HG rules (of ANY edition) that it should be treated as 400 tons for hardpoints.

Don't recall. Don't have any of the GW stuff anymore, except the stuff which made it into GDW versions...

Out on a limb (waaay out), but Judges Guild? A White Dwarf or Space Gamer article?

Be nice to find it if the other weapons and shields were covered, too.
