We can talk about fact this and fact that. Or you can just go look at the post and draw your own opinion. Nearly half of the discussion ended up being a debate having nothing to do with the thread title...and sadly even more after a poster (myself) asked folks to get back on topic.

Tbeard you have to agree (well I guess you don't) that the wording of your opening post here gave a somewhat biased potrayal of what actually occurred.

Or, you can explain to us how killing the thread constituted "help" in any meaningful definition of the term. And don't you agree that it would have been far better to simply warn the participants to be more civil first? If, of course, one was actually interested in continuing the discussion on the merits.

I also challenge you to produce a single insult that I fired at anyone in the discussion. If you can't, I'd appreciate a retraction of your insinuation that I somehow caused it to be locked.

Not sure I'm buying your claim that you're "totally unbiased"...

I like what Hunter sometimes does. When a thread here on the CotI starts to get too hot, he'll jump in with a post that says, "cool it", or some such. That's the warning, to everybody on the thread.

It seems to work quite well, and the thread did not have to be locked (in most cases).

While I have contributed to the threads over at Mongoose, I do not consider myself a fanboy (YMMV). Being a CT fan, I like most of what I see.

However, I have to say that while no warning was issued, in the post that closed the thread, MongooseChris clearly stated that if discussion of the actual topic was to continue, just start a new thread. That was done and eventually a response was made from Mongoose that the damage was being changed. Same for the Effect/Timing thing. They are keeping it, which some don't like, but they are making changes to it to limit the top out factor and adjusting the weapon damages to take that into account.

Both of those things happened because of criticism of the MGT system. They listened and they reacted. In some cases, they have listened and not changed anything because they didn't agree, which is there right.

The pattern that I have seen emerge recently is a bit different that TBeard's.

In the beginning, MongooseGar (the writer of MGT) responded just about every day to posts about the rules, but as we have gotten closer and closer to the deadline, he has responded less and less. While I do not know his reasons, I suspect it has more to do with time than intent. He is busy polishing up the core book and just doesn't have the time to post to every question. I understand that.

It is possible, that he is just tired of answering questions that are printed in the rules, or that he is fed up with everyone and just wants to finish it. Personally, I don't think so, but it is possible.

Having been there since the announcement of MGT, I must say that the responses that I have received, to posts and emails, have always been thankful and thoughtful.

Do I like everything about MGT, NO, but I didn't like everything about ANY RPG I have ever played. That's why we have houserules.

The goal right now is to make the game about to be published the best it can be. If that makes me a fanboy, then I guess I am.

As an uninvolved, never been to the forums, 30,000 foot, "umm, why don't you just butt out you don't know what your talking about" observer, the key here isn't the locking of threads.

It seems pretty clear why threads are being locked. The key here is that you can simply turn around and post the question again. That doesn't sound like stifling of debate. It sounds more like throwing a bucket of water on a pair of cats in your backyard your at 3am.

Now if you went and made a new thread that was immediately locked or, worse, deleted, then, yea there may be shenanigans. But it sounds very likely that locking the thread IS their mechanism of warning the posters.

May seem a bit shotgunny or sledgehammery to some, but it's obviously effective.

I wouldn't look much past that.
