Hi all.
I am hoping someone out there can clarify for me some issues I have figuring out how weapon penetration is supposed to work.
I understand the principle in general; that penetration is the amount of damage dice lost for each point of armor that the attack has to pass through.
Thus a weapon with say damage 10 and penetration 2 at a certain range firing upon a target with an armor value of 3 would lose 6 (pen 2 * armor 3 ) dice to the armor, leaving 4 (10 damage - 6 lost) dice to come through to the body.
I hope so far I am right.
Now comes what boggles me. If I open the TNE Core book to pg. 355 and look at the statistics of the High-Energy weapons (Plasma and Fusion rifles) I can see that their Penetration values actually get lower at higher ranges...
( example. Plasma Rifle-12 has damage 9 and Pen values of 9-4-1 )
... this to me looks as if the rifle above will lose 9 * armor from it's damage at short range, 4 * armor at medium range, and 1 * armor at long range.
This doesn't seem to make any sense.. or does it? Is anyone out there that can help me figure out what they mean there?
Best regards,
Ivar
