Posting traffic a bit low...

Umm, yeah.... I guess I should have added a ;)

(I don't actually watch TV anyway, would have found it online somewhere if I was gonna watch. :) )

A good night to eat out though during the Super Bowl, as we did Lawry's Prime Rib in Chicago with my brother in law and his wife, and I think that there was all of 8 people in the restaurant eating. We were outnumbered by the employees. Prime rib and Lobster tail special.

That's disappointing, I would have expected on a Traveller forum something more akin to a Firefly marathon. ;)

Even for spambots ?

Even for spambots. 5 discrete spambot IP addresses in the last 48 hours, tho'.

I mean, 7 accounts from one IP Address with the word "horse" in one day? (And all with hotmail email accounts, periods in stupid places in the email address.) All from poland.

I know there are a few Poles on the boards who are legit... so no block on Poland as a whole, but, sheesh, the polish spammers really getting annoying.

My validation process for new user accounts:
  1. check to see if the IP address is unique in the last 24-48 hours of registrations. If multiples, consider suspicious
  2. look at the IP address - if from China, Russia, or the Ukraine, reject out of hand. If from Poland, any of the Balkans, India, or the Philippines, consider suspicious. If a discrete small range with consistent spammers, block the IP.
  3. look at the email host.... hotmail.com, yandex.com, aol.com: consider suspicious. Anything with sex in it, reject. Known malware or criminal hacking site, reject and report.
  4. look at the email account. more than two periods, periods dividing a word in the middle, multiple attempts with terminal number differences, sexual references: consider suspicious
  5. Look at the user name requested. Anything to do with sex or sales, reject. Anything in the banned words list, reject. Nonsense letter string, especially if one of a sequence, consider suspicious.
  6. if suspicious for more than one reason, reject.
10 to 30 times per day...

At and T has been having lots of problems with their web connections lately. I have issues here at home and my lady has had issues at work. I wonder if the RIF's are playing dos attack games again.
