which has details and pictures of the ships...

FWIW, The UNSC ships are some of the ones I use and amongst the most Traveller-esque ships they produce.

(BTW, BITS and myself don't get any kickback from this - just thought that it may be interesting if you play PP)

Jeez, word gets around. I'm just reading playtest-list email where last minute fixes to the SSDs and were being put in place by Dean... (Star Ranger).... ;)

Glad to see the good word spreading though. The UNSC has a B5/B5 Crusade/Technobrick feel to it. Definitely the box type hull...

I'm considering purchasing PP:Escorts. I need to know if it is compatible in a role-playing scenario.

In other words, is it compatible with my MT task system to use instead of MTs space combat rules?

Thanks,

Luther

Mr. Faust,

The PP games are not primarily RPG games. They are wargames set in the Traveller mileau, much like 5th Frontier War, Invasion: Earth or Imperium. Mr. Barclay (aka Kaladorn) asked a question similar to yours earlier in this thread.

This is not to say that you could not work RPG elements into the PP games. For example; the strategic rules in PP:Fleet allow for the skills of admirals to effect combat at that level. It would require some work to fit individual PC skills into PP ship combat however. For instance, both games normally use 1D6 so even mediocre skills could heavily influence die rolls.

"In other words, is it compatible with my MT task system to use instead of MTs space combat rules?"

Compatible after some work on your part I'd think. Again, with 1D6 rolls, even mediocre skills will have large effects. Also in the PP games, sensor performance; which plays an important part in MT ship combat (an addition that I applaud), is folded into weapon ranges. Simply put, anything that would degrade a ship's ability to detect and/or target an opponent affects the firer's weapon range - the MT combat actions of 'sensing' and 'shooting' are made part of a single PP combat action.

Aside from the 1D6 die rolls, the time and scale of the PP games also work against direct PC involvement.

However, I do think that; after a bit ofwork on the GM's part, PC actions can be added to the PP games. Especially in the following areas:

Weapon ranges - Pilot and gunnery skills could increase or decrease weapon ranges as necessary. Pilot skill could negatively affect an opponent's range in much the same way pilot skills negatively effect an opponent's HG2 'to hit' rolls. Gunnery skills would work in a similar manner with skill levels being used to increase weapon ranges or ignore intervening items that diminish range; i.e. nuc explosions.

Damage Control - Damage in the PP is applied to hull boxes and, once enough hull boxes are checked off, all ship's systems must pass a go/no-go roll or suffer loss. Engineering, and all its the other kindred skills, could be used to effect those rolls.

I hope this answers your questions. While the PP games are not PC-focussed ship combat systems, they are excellent wargames and can still be used in a campaign by any GM.

Sincerely,
Larsen

My copy of PP:F arrived today from Warehouse 23. The scuffing along the spine is minor and mostly along the back edge of the spine. The front cover is almost untouched (and looks pretty good).

Obviously I've not yet played it but it reads nice and I can't wait to use it.

Looks like a job well done, Dom.

Thanks! I've been waiting to hear from someone who actually has a copy of PP:F to see how bad the scuffing was. I know that Andy wouldn't let out product that wasn't up to scratch :-/

Let me know what you think when you read it.

If you're in the UK then you may want to know that Esdevium Games (the UK distributor) have now ordered PP:F so your local shops should be able to get copies soon. Andy was building them (and the Mystic Station re-order) last weekend to ship this week.

Power Projection: Escort is not suitable for PC style engagements out of the box/book as written, because, as Larsen correctly says, the game was was written as a High Guard substitute. You could tweak the game (first suggestion would be to increase the number of damage boxes by a factor of ten whilst keeping damage at the same level) but we've no plans at the moment to publish anything like this.

Hi Larsen,

Have you got a copy of Fleet yet?! If so, let me know what you think to the finished product...

;)

Do not know what this "scuffing" rigmarole is, but my copy of Power Projection: Fleet is pristine; as ALL my purchases from SJGames are.
And this coming from a non GURPS player. The company sells quality merchandise.

It's not "rigamarole." I merely pointed out that my copy of PP:F does have some minor cosmetic damage along the spine, as we were warned might be. I am glad that we were told about it, so that it did not come as a surprise and the damage is very minor and has no effect on using the product.

Oz, Hal wrote Feb 13 that Warehouse 23 reported their first shipments would be scuffed. It's a shame that you, or anyone else for that matter, should have to win the Scuff Lottery. Mine has got to be from the first shipment, and doesn't have a scratch. Wish I could trade you. May your next adventure uncover an unlicensed and untraceable Black Globe.

Hey, I'm not complaining. I got what I wanted, the latest set of wargaming rules for the TRAVELLER universe!! Who cares about some scuff marks? All the pages are there (something that has sadly not always happened with TRAVELLER materials I've bought) and I've already read it a couple of times.

That is correct because the 2nd shipment hasn't made it to the distributors yet...

Hello all!

We've received our restock order of Power Projection: Fleet and will
be restocking Warehouse 23 shortly. A _small_ order is also going out
to Noble Knight Games. I do not know how many of NKG's are pre-ordered
however.

NB - The spine wear on this batch is much less noticeable.

Our site should be updated within 24 hours to permit ordering.

I did promise to keep you folks in the loop!
