Questions on some Traveller/Twilight 2000 stuff

Hi,

Recently while digging through some of my old Traveller and Twilight 2000 stuff, I came across a couple things I had noticed many years ago but had forgotten about and was curious if anyone else had noticed any similar things.

First, in the Starship Owner's Manual from Digest Group Publications, has anyone else noticed that the "Old Salt" appears to actually be Senator John McCain's father (see these links http://members.cox.net/psjn/OldSalt.jpg & http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/jsmccain.htm )

Second, in the Module "Boomer" for Twilight 2000, has anyone else noticed that the ship "Arktika" appears to be the same as a drawing that was put out by Greenpeace for a replacement for the Rainbow Warrior back in the 1980's (see these links http://members.cox.net/psjn/Arktika.jpg & http://members.cox.net/psjn/RBIIa.jpg )

I apologize if anyone has already commented on either of these things in the past or if this is not an appropriate place to post this.

Regards

PF

You're not the first to draw a comparison to Adm. McCain... but THAT photo is a darned near proof that he's the model.

Many of GDW's illustrations are pencils of other peoples' photos. Several Illos in T2K 1st ed appear to be pencils with new backgrounds but people from US Army recruiting publications. It means that the T2K 1E rules look just like the 1985 US Army... with ALL the details. It's like rotoscoping in films.

Of all the art that's come out, I've always been fond of Keiths work (the guy in book 4 is a particular favorite), and the pencils in the original T2K.

Dick Hentz drew the soldier in the front of Book 4. It's also a favorite of mine as well.

I'd never noticed, thanks for for the link. But it's not Senator McCain's father, it's his grandfather.

You have to have the correct eras for the various sections of "The McCain Admiralty".

Captain John S McCain is the Senator.

His father, Admiral John S. McCain, Jr. was the Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Command, (CINCPAC), commander of all U.S. forces in Vietnam.

His Grandfather, John S. McCain, Sr. was also a four star admiral in the Navy, and served as Commander of Air Forces for Western Sea Frontier and the South Pacific Area in 1942.
