Returning to Classic Traveller

DuneFox

SOC-5
I am returning to Classic Traveller having purchased the CD Rom of all the original books.

I have been hearing of this Rule 68A and I am not sure what it is? 30 years ago we just used a TN of 8 for every thing but we were most likely doing it wrong....

So any help here?

Thanks!
Todd

Oh that is brilliant Supp4

Whenever a throw is called for during a game, the Ref decides on the throw difficulty. The three Difficulty Levels each have a base target number assigned to them.

Code:
Difficulty
---------------
Easy 6+
Average 8+
Difficult 10+

Note the name of the Rule. 68A. This is Traveller hexidecimal notation for 6-8-10. You'll never forget the three base difficulty numbers.

It grafts a somewhat formalised difficulty rating system onto skill rolls - 6+ for easy, 8+ for moderate and 10+ (A in hexadecimal) for hard - hence the name 68A.

Note that it would change to 58B if you wanted striker consistency...

3=routine
6=unusual
9=difficult
12=very difficult
15=extraordinary

(notice that each classification allows a +-1 adjustment to the intuitive judgement)

Welcome (back)!
Basically it is just the concept of a sliding scale: a standard action is 8+ to succeed; an easier task is 6+; a tougher one A+ (i.e. 10+). Simple. :) It's like pushing a dial up or down on a gadget.

Supp4 is THE MAN when it comes to great ideas! :cool:
