There have been a couple of threads over the years about fixing High Guard combat - there have been sopme pretty good rule change suggestions.

And another couple of thoughts.

You could have entirely different damage tables for turret and bay weapons (I'd use the bay table for spinals to keep things simple ;) ).

A couple of points of bay proof armour is going to make a ship immune to turret weapon batteries - unless you can co-ordinate all twenty laser batteries into the same hit roll.

Which adds another idea for a rule addition...

Rather than a fix for High Guard (which works best for fleet vs fleet combat), my proposal might better serve as a seed towards expanding the Book 2 combat (which works best for ship vs ship combat).

Less overall disruption.
