Second Imperium SuperBattleship

Previous canon implied the RoM was mainly TL12-13, probably with some experimental TL14. Bits of T4 stated it was TL13-14, reaching TL15 in many areas, which seems highly unlikely to many people - the Sollies were the ones with the higher tech and they were very thinly spread. They simply wouldn't have had the time, resources, or motivation to keep pushing the TL up - while dragging the Vilani along with them - as well as stopping the Imperium from imploding.
The previous canon of which I'm aware (MT:Referee's Companion) stated that the RoM reached TL 12. I would think that one might slip in a few experimental TL13 stuff without doing too much violence to that, but anything that was mature TL13 (let alone TL14+) seems contrary to that information.

What material prior to T4 mentions TL13+ technology?

All we know for certain is that the Terrans reached TL12 (vs Vilani TL11) during the 9th(?) IW. Anything more is speculation, but I don't think it's unlikely that some areas (especially around Terra) may have reached TL13 during the following 500 years. Some experimental TL14 equipment is possible, but very rare (like TL16 in CT/MT).

Do you know that if you put some electronics and strings on this it would make quite an interesting guitar.

For more Space Battleship Yamato / Star Blazers ship designs, Musashi Enterprises, Inc.'s Star Blazers Fleet Battle System page (link) has many miniatures (link) and reference/game books (link) based on the TV shows and movies. Some pictures on the website, including painted miniatures. Classic series, classic ships.

I also recomend The Legend of Galatic Heroes (link) series based on some novels. German (Prussian/HRH) styled* Galactice Empire vs. the upstart Free Planets Alliance. Many ships, boarding actions (with boarding axes), superweapons ala the starhammer, intrigue, all there. One of the best sci-fi shows ever and quite suitable for inspiring bits for your Traveller campaign.

However, both series are copyright their original creators and thus not suitable for having their rights reliquished as per the OP (link). AFAIK there are no RPGs for either series, though both have had tabletop and computer/console games. Space Battleship Yamato is available on DVD (link) in the USA as the Star Blazers tv show and IIRC subtitled Yamato movies. Legend of Galactic Heroes, due to the large number of episodes, not being a new show, and being of limited interest (complex science fiction) currently has only fan support in the USA.

* to the point of looking like Frederick the Great in Spaaaaaace and using German titles, terminology, and imagery

</font>
I see that the significance of the Yamato is not lost on you. ;)

SpaceBattleship Yamato was on television in 1973. It appeared years before Traveller. Years before Star Wars and the Death Star. Years before Battlestar Galactica.

(tho admitedly, the original Enterprise NCC-1701 came in the late 1960s)

For the most part, the Yamato was Science Fiction's "original" Terran space-battleship.

I'm working on that bit now. Should have an update later today.

Rock On, Andrew!

I'm grateful for your efforts and I think the hangar deck will reduce the 'guitar factor'

An idea - how does the model look with the spinal segments as compressed spheres, rather than rounded rectangles?

And on a technical note, do you use Lightwave? If so, may I have a copy of the file when you've finished the model? I'm a novice but I've got Lightwave and I'd love to examine your handiwork in detail.

No problem. I use Cinema 4D, but it'll export in 3DS and OBJ.

Citizen Boulton - since your department has been modelling the ship in such extraordinary detail, the oversight council has decided that your team can make the final decision regarding the geometry of the spinal segments.

Siiriani Corp would like to thank you, esteemed citizen, for you and your team's fine work.

I'm preferring the rounded boxes to the stretched spheres, the connecting surfaces of the spheres don't leave as much of a space for a corridor to pass though.

Greetings and salutations,

IMHO, the rounded rectangles would most likely be used by the Solomani. It is a gun after all and I think the Solomani would like their enemies to know that they have big ones.

Besides, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

I'd say that the table in Referee's companion that shows that the RoM didn't reach TL13 is more than mere speculation.

I understand that many decks will be similar but I would expect the whole thing to be detailed. Afterall, one way around it is to have catherdral celings and the area which would take up the most space would be the cargo bay, as I said to accomodate 2-4 cruisers.
As several people have pointed out, detailing an entire ship like this is totally impractical for one person. It might be possible if there were a team of people working on it, but for one person it would be a years work.

I did a quick calculation on just how big the deckplans for a ship this size would be. Using 1/4 inch graph paper, each page 8" x 10" it would be really huge. 200k = 400k squares. That's just over 17 x 17 pages if put in a square/rectangle. The area is about the same as my dining room, a tad over 11' x 14 '. If you draw this out as 'playable' deckplans then it becomes crazy. For 15mm multiple by about 2 and for 25mm, multiply the above numbers by 4. Got an empty basketball court anyone. :eek:

I don't think a real warship would have cathederal ceilings, too much wasted space. Unless of course it's just a political statement show ship. Doubling the height of the ceilings would probably mean the ship would be seriously under crewed and easy pickings in a real fight.

</font>
Y'know, I'd forgotten all about that table. Of course, it says the 3I hasn't reached TL16, even though the start of the chapter states that some worlds have. Which is what I said: the RoM didn't reach TL13, but some worlds may have.

Could it be that the MT table's wrong?

It states that the Terrans achieved TL12 in -2210 with their discovery of the jump 3 drive.

This is nine years after the end of the Interstellar Wars :confused: , which is a bit odd since the Terrans invented the jump 3 drive prior to the ninth (not Nth) war.

According to GT:ISW the Indomitable was laid down in 2239AD
