Serenity - The Movie

I saw it this evening at a premiere, I am even wearing the baseball cap from it as I type this. Ladies and gentlemen, I highly recommend that you all see this movie. I have not sat through a movie and been so entertained since I was 8 years old and watched Star Wars on the big screen. This may as well be, Traveller - The Movie.

Don't ask for spoilers unless you send a PM, just go see it. You will not be disappointed.

Does Inara show her cans?

Wait. I could probably say that a little more sensitively...

Are there any boobies?

In the US it's "Rated PG-13 for sequences of intense violence and action, and some sexual references."

Doesn't look likely. Besides, do you really want to tick off Mal?

Oh please. It's not like Sgt Mal was 'advancing' on that 'front' in the hope of taking ground, if ya know what I mean.

Chika bow wow. ;)

I am supposed to be watching the movie right now. I got passes to a special screening for this evening. I even showed up an hourly an found that the theater was &%$#ing sold out.

I'm really ticked off right now. I really want to hit someone right now.

Tickets Sold out in half a day then they decided to Put it on in a bigger Theartre Yipee got tickets !!!. The promoters could not believe the responsse for a Movie that was based on a little watched series (played at 11:30 at night)

IT IS VERY COOL !!!

ps Mark you wiil get there !!

Now where can I get a Ship's Engineer with that sort of Drive !!!!!!!!

I've got a ticket for a midnight showing Thursday/Friday. Same theater chain, differnet location. (I don't have a choice. Marcus Theaters are the only game in town.) I'm going to have to show up really early (10 or even 9 pm) to make sure I get a seat. I'll be a zombie at work in the morning, but it will be worth it.

I suppose I should be happy that there is any interest in this at all. It just hacks me off that I was unable to get in on the free--note FREE--showing.

I read someplace that this is only the second time in history that a series that did not last a full season has been 'resurrected' into a full length feature movie.

Trivia Time:
Name the other one - the Show, the Season, how many episodes it ran, and the movie that came out of it...

Mork and Mindy the Motion Pi.... hhhmmm... nope.
Ahhh!
The Greatest American Her..... no.... that's not it....
Earnest saves the Emperium... uhm... nope....
ok, give us a hint.
Sci-fi? Sitcom? Decade?

Ok, I'm going to take a stab and say...
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, or The Incredible Hulk. Was Spider Man a 70's show???

hmmm, Battlestar Galactica? Circa 1978 iirc and um, three episodes I think? And the movie was a couple years later with the same name I think, here anyway.

I thought Battlestar Galactica was first a movie, then a show (sorta like Buck Rogers in the 25th Century (shudder)).

Great. It'll be another two months until they show it around here.

Maybe I should just make a trip to the Netherlands and see it there, where it opens in a week or so.

Battlestar Galactica was a "made for TV movie" with a full season that followed. Even though it had the highest ratings of any television show of all time, it was canceled because of weekly production costs. It was assumed that the target audience, teens and young adults, didn't have the spending power to justify the costs of production. This was at the infancy of computers and special effects. Very costly... It was replaced in the 1979 fall line-up by Mork and Mindy... (sigh)
After a huge outcry they produced an abortion called "Galactica 1980" with all the major characters gone save Loren Greene. It was so horrible and all the fans hated it so much (including me) that it was cancelled after only a few episodes.
But the original Battlestar Galactica lives in the hearts of all young people who were around to see it. We had always hoped it would be made into a motion picture, or the series would continue some day. Although there are some aspects I like, for the most part IMO the newest version is a drab rip off of the original.

But, enough about BSG.... So is everyone like me in hoping that this will spawn the continuation of the TV series? Does anyone have any clues, hints, or other inside information? Any browncoats on board?
Jak

This won't spawn a continuation as far as I know, because Fox owns the rights to the TV series, and if you're sharp you'll notice Serenity has been produced by Universal.

I think Joss Whedon was sufficiently crushed by Fox's treatment of Firefly that we might never see him on TV again. But who cares? Feature films is where the money is. And if Serenity is successful, we might see a movie franchise develop.

I know some people would rather have a TV series than a series of films, but I'm for the latter. TV shows are ok, but it's quantity over quality in my opinon. I'd much rather sit down to a good film for 2-3 hours than follow a season of ~22 hours where the quality is variable (some episodes will be unmissable, some will be worse-than-death, most will be meh or 'ok' or good).

I think Joss' next project is a Wonder Woman film adaptation. If so, I wonder who he'll get to play WW?

It's my understanding that part of the agreement between Universal and Fox stipulates that Universal cannot do a TV series based on Firefly/Serenity.

Fox won't even let them use the theme song from the series in the movie. :( I was hoping to get a copy of it on the movie soundtrack, too. I really like that song.

A series of movies would be great!
But all the rest sounds like another typical boardroom cluster-frack. (sigh)

A Firefly soundtrack, including the title song, is available for download: Fox Music. $9.99

It's also going to be released on CD apparently on 8-Nov. See Varese Sarabande for some more info. Also mentioned something about 'additional tracks on CD'.
