Serenity - The Movie

Joss Whedon stated no matter how well the movie does...there will not be a return to television.

As for the theme song...I found it online without much looking.

Can't wait for tomorrow...

Shiny!
I just bought 5 tickets for tomorrow evening. Me and my browncoat buddies are ready to go.
I hear it's selling out where ever it's showing and getting great reviews.
I can't wait!

I finally got to go. I went to a Midnight showing last night. I don't think I can sum it up any other way, but the movie was freaking awesome.

Of course, the poseur critic at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel wrote that it was "clichéd," smirked that it was "Blazing Saddles in space," and gave it two-and-a-half stars.

Don’t listen to the espresso-sucking, film school drop-outs who will no doubt pan this movie. Serenity is the best film of the year.

I think we must brace for the worst, in terms of the critics reviews. Most critics never get SF (even artsy ones). I will go going next week for my local Cnd$4.50 cinema to see it. All the Browncoats that I know say it is simply amazing their only drawback that they say is that it merely continues the story not answers the questions of the show.

"Blazing Saddles in space"?!?!?!?! Look, I haven't even seen all the episodes of the TV show, but I have seen Blazing Saddles, and Firefly is not that. Does this guy even know the difference between a comedic spoof and a drama with light comedy elements? If not, I suggest he get that $20 back for the diploma hanging on his wall.

Well, those of us in the UK have to wait a little while longer to see it - or get hold of a pirate copy

I won't do the latter, so the rpg that arrived this morning will have to tide me over until it's released over here.

I was lucky - I saw the BDM at the UK Final Wave showing last week :D

it's shiny! :D

Actually, many of the reviews by major outlets (NY Times, SF Chronicle, Chicago Tribune, Roger Ebert etc. ) have been positive, some very much so. (I think it's the Miami Herald review that starts out something like "There are two kinds of people in the world - those that think Joss Whedon is a genius, and those that are wrong.") There's obviously always going to be a bunch of people who just don't get it for whatever reason - don't like science fiction, don't like action movies, etc. The explosive diarehha of an elephant on them, I say!

Don't sweat the bad reviews. Go see the movie & have a good time, and bring someone who might not have seen it otherwise if you can. Spread the word! The Browncoats are on the march today, and I think we're going to see some amazing numbers come Monday.

(who hasn't seen it yet, but is going straight from work to the theater - SQUEEEEEE!)

Oh, and the other short-lived TV show that spawned a series of movies was "Police Squad", from whence came the "Naked Gun" movies.

AHAAAA! That was my second guess, well, ok, maybe 6th.
But I do remember police squad. The funniest gimmicks is that each week they would have a special guest star, and during the opening credits, the guest star would always get killed!

Ok, 3 hours and counting till the movie! Time to get the heck out of here! Have a good weekend all.

Is anyone else ticked that someone else got the rights to do a Serenity RPG instead of someone Traveller-related? With some kind of Traveller system? I mean, Firefly reminded me of so many Traveller games I've been in on...free trader crew trying to keep alive and keep one step ahead of the Authorities.

Oh yeah, and it also reminds me a lot of Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Outlaw Star. This is not necessarily a bad thing: my .SIG should tell you I'm a CowBe fan.

Will I go see it? Not sure. Maybe. It takes something really special to get me out of "Boycott MPAA" mode.

Actually. as a Canadian browncoat (read: small RPG market), I would be happy to pick up anyone the Serentity RPG but it is expensive $75 but agreed it is very shiny.

Me, I know first weekend sales are important for sequels and all but this weekend, I am rather busy but maybe Sunday otherwise next week. Most of the critics here in the Great White North actually like it.

I'm thinking positively about the fact that in Knoxville, the Big Damn Movie started showing in only two theaters and at the end of the day it is now in seven theaters.

Go see it. I stomached an 'anti-theft' advertisement when I went to see it earlier tonight. I wouldn't let politics prevent me from enjoying myself with a good flick.

Saw it last night. Not as crouded as I tought, but it was the late show, and the theather was about 80% full. Good movie. It is VERY trevelleresque. Is that a word?

OK, still, if it is all in one system, why aren't the "outer worlds" cold? It ain't Science Fiction, its Space Opera. A good adventure story with spaceships.
Annoying gearhead mode OFF

It has been out for 36 hours and I haven't seen it yet. *twitch*

BTW, Police Squad wasn't cancelled. The Zuckers had a limited number of good scripts, and when they ran out of them they shut it down. The movies weren't as good, so they probably should have stopped at 6 x 30 min.

On the reviews front, there's an excellent site called rottentomatoes.com that tracks reviews and Serenity has 85 good reviews and 22 bad ones logged for a 'freshness' of 79%. 60% is regarded as the target so it's doing pretty well.

And I have to wait a week. No fair!

I was going to see it this week, but now I'm going to see Magnificent Desolation at the Bradford Imax instead, so I'll have to wait another few days.
