Should DGP articles stay canon? Would you buy DGP Cdrom?

Should DGP articles stay canon? Would you buy an updated MT CDrom?

Yes it is canon, that should not change. The DGP material is some of the best Traveller material ever produced, that cannot change. I wish it was available. I wish the unfinished material, even in it's unfinished form, was available--especially titles like The Black Duke, and Manhunt.

Agreed on this, and I'd like to see the announced1 Psionic Races (Zhodany and Droyne) and Strange Races (K'kree and Hivers) AM published, even in unfinished forms (as you say about The Black Duke and Manhunt).

NOTE 1: I don't remember where I did read references about those supplements being announced, but IIRC they were planned as follow up from S&A and V&V. The names could not be exactly thise I give here, anyway

The only reason I didn't vote I'd buy it if released is that I already own most DGP material in dead tree copy.

It should/better. SOM is a DGP product, possibly its most famous.

I don't control any DGP licensing. This is a "your asking for it" poll.

I probably should have said "any not in print" DGP Traveller products. Mostly their articles are hard to get but there are others.

would I get them? Yes.

Should they stay canon? Maybe.

Why maybe? I don't really use MT and have never had the opportunity to read or even see DGP stuff. Since I know nothing about it I do not want to decide either way.

Though we could say "it's canon if you want it to be, and if you don't want it to be you don't need it to be."

I'm just not that impressed with the majority of the DGP product line. It has its high points but I found the bulk of it to be uninteresting or simply needless detail tacked on to what already existed. But that's just me.

I would think Roger Sanger is aware of the interest in the DGP IP and has been for 20 years so I'm not really sure what's going to change. I hope for your sake and that of everyone else who loved the DGP material so much that you succeed.

"Recreating" is really what happens if we do nothing. We will have a product from some vendor that re-explains Vland or other DGP articles.

Per DonM in other threads, Roger thinks only Marc and DonM are interested in the products even after seeing MgT sales figures. I am hoping this poll provides Don with some much needed ammo.

They have them listed in the front of a couple of DGP books like Vilani and Vargr or Starship Op Manual. I don't think they ever got printed.

DGP spans both CT and MT. They did not do only MT stuff.

Grand Census and Grand Survey, for example, were both publications for CT, as well as at least half of the Traveller Digest magazines.

The planned DGP Alien Modules were:

Volume 1: The Coreward Races (Vilani & Vargr)
Volume 2: The Rimward Races (Solomani & Aslan)
Volume 3: The Psionic Races (Zhodani & Droyne)
Volume 4: The Exotic Races (K'kree & Hiver)
Volume 5: The Minor Races (Humans & Non-humans)
Of those, only Volumes 1 & 2 ever saw print.

This poll is good for a month.

Ask any friends not on COTI much to come over and vote on this one if they're GT /MgT fans that use DGP material.

Thanks.

I can't vote in the poll.

I would prefer an option to buy all the DGP materials on one stand alone disc.

Much of the early stuff is not MT compliant, it was written for CT (the 77version of the rules at that).

The later magazines had TNE stuff in them too.

Rather than spilt everything up between updated discs for CT, MT, TNE it would be much easier to stick the whole lot on a 3rd apocrypha disc.

Seconded. I'd love to see more apocrypha disks. One for DGP at least. And other one to cover Group One, High passage magazine, and Far Traveller magazine. Maybe others.

My opinion:

I will buy DGP electronic publications. When will the CDROM appear or the ebooks at Drivethru?
It is canon, in my opinion.

As mentioned in the beginning of the thread. This is a request for complete publication of DGP product lines (articles, everything) in one or more products (CDROMs, downloads, etc.).

Please, get other non-COTI Traveller fans to share their vote! If they don't visit often or at all.

And I reiterate - the option that makes the most sense is not available to vote on - a cd with all DGP Traveller related products on it.

I would buy such a product the second it became available - I would even fund a kickstarter to a similar level of backing as T5. I have all the stuff dead tree but i would love an electronic version.

Until that happens then its canonical status is a moot point.

I think the second option is badly worded. It's basically two parts...

ARE THEY CANON?
Missing First Part: Yes, if available.
Second Part: If not available, then no. Recreate them.

Why would we consider canon something that no one can get their hands on? Those folks who have it and love it can keep using it but there is really no reason for blind devotion to something that doesn't exist for the community.

Now, considering that this is about an older discontinued Traveller then it might be academic whether it matters. But canon should be available. If it's not, then it's just gossip or rumor.

I would say keep them canon if they are available. If they are not available, get rid of them and let some interested parties fill in the gaps. Heck, it would be a real fun COTI project that might invigorate some interest in MT.

Here's a bit of heresy - Mongoose could advance their timeline and do the rebellion properly.

They could fix some stuff (Aslan and Vargr incursions :CoW:), the 'real' Strephon is the robot double, slow collapse through Hard Times to a second long night.

Not that you're on topic, but to bring it about, the DGP books (as separate from the MT books by DGP staffers) really don't touch on the Rebellion at all.

Plus, given the track record, it wouldn't be done any better. Not that there's much demand, either - most MT fans are not using the Rebellion era.

...given the track record, it wouldn't be done any better.

Well said, Aramis!

It would be pretty hard for MgT to revisit the Rebellion with any consensus.
1248 certainly did not bring about consensus in QLI/COTI.

Recreating DGP history really is focused on supporting certain products.
The Rebellion is what it is. It could always use more details in specific areas.
