Star Wars: Rogue One

Loved it though I can say it was very familiar yet so different. I'm a bit distressed the Bothans got railroaded out of the history but that was a vision of 40 years ago and Star Wars tends to be human centric.

Throughout the movie I was actually comparing it to what it would be like as Traveller mechanics.

Spent a lot of time quietly explaining my less than Star Wars enthusiast friend what was going on and what the significances were. Helped solidify what I was seeing for myself too. I must applaud the CGI for the spectacular imaging of people who can not be recreated with the same actors. The end was an amazing tribute.

And for all those here.... seriously?! You're upset because Rogue One and Star Wars in general isn't hard science fiction? I was always under the impression it was used to compare and contrast with Traveller in hard science discussions. As the Architect of the Death Star said, "They have Space Wizards!". Rogue One and all the Star Wars episodes (except, personally, Jar Jar Abrams' attempt) are the best scifi fantasy ever.

I left the theater more than satisfied.

Once every two years, they pander to the existing fanbase, and in the off year they can afford to tinker with the formula.

Imagine if Han Solo is the way he is, if on Correllia they had every year a mandatory gladiatorial contest where they killed off the best of their youth, and Han managed to survive one.

I'm a bit distressed the Bothans got railroaded out of the history...

One of the problems that crops up when you have more than one Death Star in a story is that it's easy to start remembering things in the wrong order. The quote "...many Bothans died to bring us this information..." was from "Return of the Jedi," where Mon Mothra was referring to the plans for the -second- Death Star; the first is the one we saw being built in "Rogue One."

So, presumably a lot of Bothans still died... just in the future.

Ah yes, you're right. It's been a while since I saw both of those episodes so the confusion. O.o At least I didn't refer to the NPR extended radio edition of Star Wars and the precursor story how Leia got the plans.....
