Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.
In point of fact they should be in powered armour suits - this is just a very pretty computer generated continuation of the awful film franchise version.
One day they may actually remake Starship Troopers and stay faithful to the book.
I doubt in our lifetime. I just accept Hollywood for what it is. I do think this is much better than movie 2 and 3, though it is even with the CGI totally anime which some people also have strong opinions about.
Sorry CGI, no matter what is CGI - it may look good but never feel good. I often get depressed at the state of SF films that rely too heavily on CGI and not enough on storyline. Similarly, my son, who is 8 cannot distinguish between a live action film and a good CGI production - I know the world is being overlain augmented reality but I prefer the virtual to be the shared stories that we tell around the campfire/tabletop not from a box.
One problem with live action is getting actors to wear helmets. During those dramatic action scenes, they want their own puss to be spread across the screen on the tight shots (it's someone else's body getting beaten in the long shots, of course.)
At least with CGI, all you've got is the artists who might like to show off their cool character design, but the idea of not having the extra effort of animating it through every scene has a strong appeal, too.
Starship troopers from Avalon Hill was the first wargame I ever bought. I was looking over the rules again and then I really looked at the back cover of the box. I hadn't really thought about the knives in the Bug warriors claws before.
This is Bandai 1988 version of Starship Trooper. The story is only six episodes and deals with Rico. It's subtitles and I found it quite a good story. I know it doesn't follow the story closely but it deals with the characters more than the war between the bugs and humans. In episode 5, check out the why they deploy the drop capsules.
