Status of the QLI/FFE Reprint?

Greetings, citizens. I was wondering (given the recent release of Trav by another licensee) about the status of the QLI/FFE reprint of the first three books (the one with the Vargr and the Free Trader on the cover). Is that version still in print and in use, or has it been superseded?

I may be starting up a CT (3 LBB only) game soon and I ordered a copy from an online retailer (just to have for the table), but I was just wondering about its status in general. Thanks.

At least until Hunter's license runs out...

Last year, I purchased FOUR of them directly from Marc Miller. I didn't even bother going through Hunter.

Payment? Marc takes PayPal.

Shipping charge? Marc charged me a mere $1 shipping per book. :)

Why didn't I just order it point-and-click directly from Marc's website? Uhh, because this damn book is not listed on his website. That's why. But apparently, MWM has a few boxloads of these still for sale, as of late 2007.

Why'd I buy 4 of them?

One copy for my "Use and Abuse"
One copy for my "Archival Mint"
Two copies given to my campaign Players who needed it. This form of generosity allowed me to convert two gamers into regular (Classic) Traveller gamers. Before that they never played ANY tabletop RPGs prior. But they had been wanting to.

I think you can get all the T20/QLI products from other websites like Drivethrurpg.com or even FFE, and it's much more advisable to get them from those sites than from QLI's onsite store. And certainly if you are getting hardcopy products then you are asking for trouble if you order them direct from QLI.

The reason is that if there's any problems with the purchase then you have a much better chance of someone on those other sites being around to fix them for you, and you should get your products promptly too. It seems from all the complaints posted on these boards that with Hunter not around you'd be waiting forever to get a response and to get hardcopies posted (even the electronic purchases here on QLI seem somewhat "hit and miss" in terms of whether they work).

Well, I'm genuinely sorry that QLI is having troubles. The little reprint volume is a nice book and quite convenient. I hope everything works out for these folks.

Hi Odegra. You are preaching to the choir. You need not tell me this. I know for a fact that purchasing from Hunter (this website) is risky. I know this because the first time I ever registered on this website was in 2005. And immediately I was stupid enough to make a $55 purchase from Hunter's online store. He never shipped me anything. I waited for nearly 2 months for Hunter to send me an email confirming my order. Like everyone else, I asked around for various email addresses to get to Hunter. No such luck. Yes, my credit card was charged. Guess what? After giving up on Hunter, I finally called my credit card company and filed a formal complaint, something along the lines of "Online Fraud" or "Failure of Merchant to Deliver Goods". Three weeks after, my credit card company finally credited me my money back. However, it seems that Hunter still got my money, and still never shipped me anything since. My credit card company simply "ate the loss" in order to make me happy, since I have been a customer of theirs in good standing for over 12 years.

I have privately corresponded with at least 3 or 4 other members of these COTI forums, who have also ordered something from Hunter, got their card charged, and never received shipment of goods. Trust me. I'm not the only one to have experienced this. There is a long list of us with the same woeful SOB story.

I must be an exception

All of the comments of others aside, I ordered ten copies of the reprint awhile ago, and did not immediately get them. I sent some email to follow up on it, and might have even tried to make a phone call.

To make a long story short, once I sent along the original order receipt to Hunter, he shipped them out to me and they arrived in fine condition and fairly quickly. There was a delay of several weeks, but it got resolved. So I'm happy with the result - I've got a stack of copies of CT Books 1-3 to use in getting others hooked on our favorite game.
