Striker Chaff Installment 2 Area of effect

Evening all,

After finding out in Book 2 Rule 50 that the effects of a Chaff round lasts 6 turns I can't seem to understand why a tech level 9 chaff round has and the same 84 cm area of effect as a tech level 9 Illum round.

I wouldn't have a problem with the effected area being the same if both Illum and Chaff rounds where available at the same tech level. Unfortunately, the Illum round is available at tech level 5 and a Chaff round becomes available at tech level 7.

Shouldn't the tech level modifier count down 1 row on the CPR gun table for each tech level above 7 instead of 5?

I'm very confused, okay I;m even more confused than normal;)

There's no real-world reason a chaff round's area of effect should precisely match that of an illum round of the same caliber. The illum and chaff round having identical areas of effect is a convenience for the game - saves them from having to write up a separate rule, and saves players from having to remember or look up a separate datum for chaff. No logic to it - it's just simpler that way.

Hello again Carlobrand,

I'm all for keeping it simple, I won't add the last letter;), and thanks for providing an answer that is easy for me to agree with.
