T5 0.9 Errata Thread

Page 114, lower left hand corner "follows a standard pattern" should be changed to read "uses the following sequence". It should then read

Knowledge, Knowledge, Skill, Skill (continues)

"Pattern" is something that repeats, and apparently the design intent is KKSSSSS, rather than KKS KKS KKS.

Page 411, end of the page -- typo. Stray word "Expected" at the end of the discussion of Symbols, along with stray "Traffic" and "Ship Traffic" on the bottom left of the page.

Here's one that isn't really all that evident until you run into it. On page 216laser rifles cost x6 cr and laser pistols cost x2 cr which puts them on par with heavy and advanced pistols. I'm pretty sure it should be x6 as lasers are a premium weapon.

p.356 Default Sensors

In the text box "What sensors should a ship carry?"

These are assumed to be minimal sensors, possibly the minimum legal fit-out for any orbit capable craft

Comm-8 is listed as R=7 or 50km but a standard handheld Comm-8 is listed in the equipment chapter as being R=8.3 or 1000km.

A Comm from ACS installed in a surface mount is S=7

So is it a minmal hand Comm unit or a free surface installation?

Fix: list the Comm as R=8 or list it as S=7

Should the Radar-9 in the same context be R=8 or S=7?

08 Starship Armor1

The effects of Ablat and Reflec on the chart on p.292 are transposed compared to the text in the rest of the book.

It should be:

Ablat Coat: Heat= TL x100

Reflec Coat: Burn= TL x100

Pages 301 and 367 - weapon mounts and descriptions

Per T5.09 page 301, The Mining Laser is TL-8, Pulse Laser is TL-9, and Beam Laser is TL-10. All three have range R=7, and damage is solely based on the mount.

Per T5.09, page 367:

Mining Laser is an industrial-strength Laser system created for asteroid mining. Its primary use is slicing nickel iron asteroids at relatively close ranges.

Pulse Laser is a weaponized Mining Laser with improved power and range. It fires in intermittent pulses rather than continuous beams.

Beam Laser is the standard starship Laser weapon. It fires in continuous beams to inflict greater damage.

Should the those lasers have ranges of 5, 6 and 7 respectively?

Should there be a damage reduction on the mining laser and pulse laser?

Pg 276 - Hull structure

In the right column, in the section labeled The Structure Types, it reads

Charged is an improvement to Plate. The charged technique applies power to increase the hull strength.

The first use of the word Charged should be in bold font, the same as the other types of hull material.

Multiple pages - the ten trades

The following skills all have a paragraph stating

<tradename> is one of the Trades. A trade is a skilled practice of a practical occupation. An individual with skill in one of the Trades is a skilled worker (as opposed to an unskilled worked). Electronics is one of ten Trades: Biologics, Electronics, Fluidics, Gravitics, Polymers, Magnetics, Mechanic, Photonics, and Programmer.

Page 124, Craftsman
Page 127, Electronics
Page 129, Fluidics
Page 131, Gravatics
Page 135, Magnetics
Page 135, Mechanic
Page 137, Photonics
Page 137, Polymers
Page 138, Programmer

On each of these pages, the word ten could be inserted prior to the word Trades in the first sentence. The third and final sentences could be replaced. A possible replacement might be similar to See "The Trades" sidebar on page 143.

For example, the updated skill paragraph might read

Biologics is one of the ten Trades. A trade is a skilled practice of a practical occupation. See "The Trades" sidebar on page 143.

Page 390, Armor

On page 390, beneath the PENETRATION block, it reads

Various Armor Values are increased against specific Attacks. After the various calculations, round the result down to the nearest whole number. AV-11 is x100 against Heat (wghich includes Beams, Lasers). A Laser attack inflicting 5D= 30 Hits reduces AV-11 from 1100 to 1070; round down
Armor Values reduced by a Hit are reduced permanently until repaired.

See the bolded and underlined portion above -- wghich should be which, and there should be a period after the words round down.

Page 59 - Scout

Eight skills per "Explorer" terms seems to be overwhelming, even balanced by the Sanity hits that Scouts suffer. Recommend one of the following:
1. Reduce to 4, remove Sanity hit.
2. Reduce to 6 skill receipts.
3. Usual 4 skills but an extra roll on the benefits table or a Ship Share or a Connection (to borrow an idea from Mongoose) or a Patron or...)?
4. Remove one skill column, and makes it a special table to roll on when a term is not an utter failure

Gracias to Robject for 2-4.

Page 282 - staffing levels

"Ships require some provision for
healthcare and health maintenance. Most ships require crew
Medical skill levels equal or exceed total crew, specialists,
and passengers."

This level of medical staffing appears to be extreme, and contradicts most previously published ship designs. It's also out of place, in that no other place in the RAW is such a direct requirement stated.

P.406 Regina example

Section G, 2nd line from bottom. "As a satellite in Orbit 4, HZ Hospitables Satellite table = 1D = 4 = Hospitable".

There are no Outcomes of "Hospitable" on any of the four subtables referred to (on p. 413); nor any "Planetoids".

P. 413. (above) and "S Number of Satelites" table allows any body regardless of orbit to have a ring system. Was that intended?

Regards

P. 405 Worlds

Worlds section column two.

Duplication of description of "inner worlds" and "outer worlds".

References to "Table 3b Strangeworlds" - table does not exist on p. 413

Satellite size tables or size restrictions do not exist.

Tables or explanation in order to generate other worlds and satellites do not exist, or are corrupted or lost. It is not clear what happened on p413. It looks as if some of the tables were conflated and some omitted when 5.09 was produced.

Related oddities:

No minimum tech levels for incredibly inhospitable main or other worlds.

No indication if govt type for other worlds should be same as main world, a colony, or can be any gov type available.

P. 408 chart 2b first line missing text.
Chart 2c missing text first and last lines.

Regards

Cassilldans

The name of this minor human race is spelled "Cassilldan" (2 esses, 2 els) in DGP's Solomani and Aslan - The Rimward Races (p 24). This is also the spelling used by Harold Hale in Traveller Chronicles 11 (p 35).

On page 54 of the Core Rules (ver 5.09) the name is spelled "Casilldan" with only one 's'. On pages 546 and 572 and in the index on page 743 the name is spelled "Cassildan" with only one 'l'.

Their homeworld (Antares 0216) is spelled "Ambemsham" with a terminal 'm' in the T5 Core Rules but "Ambemshan" with an 'n' in the T5 Second Survey data.

Recommend using the spellings "Cassilldan" and "Ambemshan" throughout the Core Rules.

(Cool Easter egg, by the way.)

Bwaps

The name and UWP of the Bwap homeworld does not match the name and UWP in the T5SS data.

The T5SS data lists the homeworld as Marhaban (Empty Quarter 0426 A5697AB-D); this name is consistent with GURPS Traveller: Interstellar Wars (p 82).

Pages 546, 571, and the index on page 743 render the name as Maharaban. Page 571 gives the UWP as A4698AB-B. The discrepancy in size is consistent with other changes to planetary data made by the T5SS.

Recommend updating pp 546, 571, and 743 with T5 data.

Obviously I missed something?
Please enlighten . . . :)
The Cassilldans are a little notorious because they had a cool illustration in the old Solomani and Aslan supplement, but no other canonical information was ever provided. Over the years many people speculated as to who they were and where they came from. So it's neat to see T5 slip so many details into the Core Rules.

Ah yes. I remember that illustration and thinking exactly the same thing. Cool pic - but who are they?
At least they have a home-world now.
