T5 Fame and Relict Clones

Example: Qithka01 is the Relict Clone of her parent pattern mother, the late Dame Qithka Cannagrrh. She inherits everything the original bequeaths to her. Yet, the Vilani megacorporation who provided the service claims that while the consciousness-personality inside the furry, white body of the Vargr Relict Clone is the property of the client, the flesh is the copyrighted, intellectual property of the megacorp. They might claim that at any time, they may put out a recall of Qithka01 so as to maintain their corporate entitiy's good name and reclaim "flawed copies". Where does the Clone itself get a say?

That example may not be so much a question of tech level at which a legal consideration kicks in, but more a matter of local and wider laws clashing.

The contract to provide the Relict Clone could be the first element. If there was a section in it that covered the return of the relict under the circumstances described, then shame on the late Dame's legal team for not picking that up. Even if it was considered a "standard" clause, there's nothing that needs to be standard in a legal agreement unless it's covered or required by legislation or regulation.

That's the second consideration. The Vilani Megacorp needs to be operating in a region where it's contracts are going to be honoured by local jurisdictions. The stability of rule of law, the legitimacy of the contract versus any possible outrage by the society where the matter is in question, the support of local laws and politicians, and the willingness of the government and nobles to honour the recall could all have an effect on the likelihood that the relict is actually required to be returned. Then the corp may have to consider the impact that decision has on their marketing: who's going to purchase one of those very expensive things if they're going to have to return to the lab and be subjected to who-knows-what kinds of treatment there.

The TL question is interesting though...
