The, err, 'foil'

Not that I know of. Most games give melee weapons very low damage ratings and don't really give much of a feel for what combat is like. Those that try to do it better are generally very specialised and not very accessible to the uninitiated.


"Very specialized" and "not very accessible" generally means "not much fun" or "takes too much time" on the tabletop. Sad but true. The more you push towards simulation, the less game is left.

Of course, the happy medium between the two will differ according to the individual.

Having tried to create a highly realistic simulationist rules set that properly reflected the realities of combat, I decided to put off another round of attempts until I've maybe solved world peace or something simple like that.

You can get a decent reflection that's fun to play and quick, but there will always be something that breaks it. IMO anyway.
