The Grand-daddy of spinal guns.

If you think WW2 Japanese battlewagons in space is wrong, then you haven't seen anything yet. :)
Yes, believe it or not, some Japanese producer took the concept a step further, and instead of a battleship (and hoping to capitalize on the fantasy and martial arts sci-fi Asian market) he put a sailing vessel in space.

Behold; MESSAGE FROM SPACE ... SPACE ... Space ... space (reverb for dramatic echo effect);

I kind of liked that movie.Vic Morrow & Sonny Chiba were the main reasons.I had a Imperial General based off of Morrow's character.I really disapointed a new kid gaming with us,He joined while I was in basic training & he heard all these stories about me from a couple friends; We were playing Traveller & I was running my General & we were running to get off planet before it expoded.Well Brig. General "Bull" Meecham wasn't quite as fast as he used to be & this new guy was a little ahead of him;so "Bull" dropped to one knee pulled his rifle up & shot him in the back.As he ran by he said "Sorry kid,but I plan on living a while longer". Poor Douggie was very disalusioned. "Bull" didn't wear the "fuzzie" cape though.

You know, I got to admit, reading that little anecdote, and the various similar ones on the "funniest moments in RPing" thread... you all are a vicious set of players. Our group was always "all for one, and one for all" type of deal. :)

But you folks. Wow. Sociopathic is what I call it :devil:

When I came back from basic I was a "little bloodthristy".My IBIS character tryed to take on a ship's craft from a Gazelle that was trying to rescue him w/a FGMP-15.(a very long game involving Psionic criminals teleporting aboard my SDB when we caught them,our raming & boarding their Type S & the long drawn out fight w/said criminals.).The gm decided that the ship's crafts lasers could be tuned down to a stun setting & zapped the IBIS agent.

Took about 2 months to get the mind set out of my system.

Thanks for posting this. Brings back some good memories. I've always been partial to the Star Blazers/ Yamato Andromedia and I tried one time to make some HG stats for her.

Since Traveller doesn't allow dual spinal mounts, how about maybe her WMG ports could contain a couple dual 500ton bay Meson guns or PA bays. Or maybe a little handwavium that she looks like she has two spinal mounts but only mounts one that fires a somewhat wider beam.

At any rate, here is Andromedia in action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9ylfABD0qg Enjoy :)

Actually, Brian, at least one edition allows dual spinals, called Parallel mounts. ISTR it being FF&S...

If I remember right you also had the 'Janus Mount' which was two 'half length' spinals butted end-to-end allowing the ship to shoot forwards and backward (so you could shoot while running away).

And if you had a spherical hull it got really weird. You could put any number of Janus mounts inside (since a sphere doesn't have a 'spine' as such), giving you 'spinal mount fire' in all firing arcs or able to shoot half a dozen spinal shots per turn by spinning the ship on its axis.

Fitting in the engines and PP was a different matter though...

Do you remember which ff&s it was MT or T4.I have the T4 but I don't think I've got the MT.I had a design a friend did that was very much Yamato in style that he called a Dreadnought Killer.I tryed to do it justice but I'm not certain.I just doubled the weight,power requirements & crew.I think it got used maybe twice.It took out a Tigeress but it was more luck than good ship design.
