The Osprey 2

A message at the top of the page keeps nagging at me to post, so here 'tis:

I remember an ad in an issue of White Dwarf for deckplans to the Osprey 2, the ship in Mark Harrison's comic strip "The Travellers." I don't suppose, by some small miracle, that anyone here has those plans, or at least more information on the Osprey 2? Sure, I could just get away with calling it a Marava variant, but I have a vague memory about her being 400 dTons instead of 200. I think. Maybe.

:rofl:Andrew beat me to it but he's right. If you want a 400ton Empress Marava class set of deckplans, lucky for you that's how the official ones come out to, pretty close anyway. I vaguely recall reading that Mark Harrison being aware of this as well.

really? i've been assuming otherwise for all these years? never got into the book 2/HG creating ships thing, so i always just assumed the numbers & stats were okay. but my group never went for a marava, anyway--type s scouts and the occasional yacht or corsair were their preferences.

Each square is 1/2 dTon, so you can just count the squares to estimate the tonnage.

Yep, but an easy fix to get it close (enough?) is to call the squares 1m instead of 1.5m. Same thing for the deckplans for the Beowulf in the DGP MT Starship Operators Guide #1.

Gah! I hate missing out on a joke I've been staring at for the last however many years. I should have known, judging from all the gag references Nic Weeks put in his plans for the Type-H variant on the scout/courier.

(Did I forget to mention that the Osprey 2 plans were drawn by Nic Weeks?)

Anyway, I was just hoping to track down the plans to go along with the UPPs for the Travellers. Completing the set, so to speak.

You know - I actually owned them - back in the day, after spending a lot of pocket money. In hindsight, I really wish I still had them.

They were on 2 or 3 sheets of A3 paper. The ship was a 400 ton military high tech ship - not a trader at all. I remember it had an ATV bay. Two turrets. Had a Millennium Falcon holo-chess board in the common room and a big holo map table.

Considering that it was pretty much pre-CAD, I remember them as being truly beautiful! The detail was incredible.

(Whoever did them, just so's you know, a lot of people wouild pay good (or bad) money for them, I think... )
