The Tiny Humanity Bubble

SOC-12

Just spotted this article looking at the extent of our species' radio broadcasts and how far they have gone over the past 100 years. Any species capable of receiving our broadcasts within that radius will now be aware of our existence.

That's a cool find. Very useful for getting across the "Space is really, really big" idea.

To paraphrase the guide...

I just don't believe how vastly, hugely, mindbogglingly big it is. I mean,. I thoght it was a long way down the road to the chemist's... :)

Thanks for posting.

But surely our radio broadcasts aren't intense enough to be distinguished from the background noise of the universe past a few light years at most, right?

Or am I kidding myself? I for one welcome our new galactic overlords.

Hope they're not hungry...

It wouldn't bode well if they're radically different. I've often figured if a super-intelligent life-form observed the Earth, it would conclude that 'humanity is a Gaian disease'. All we do is multiply and destroy our host.

Of course, if they're similar to us, they'll either kill us or enslave us, so the options aren't great either way...

Best hope we're alone. That way we can just get on with destroying ourselves and every planet within reach.

You can tell I'm having a really optimistic day... :)
