reason I reccomend *moderate* Shane, is what is average for a port of the size in question? Not trying to nitpick here in week 2 brainstorming phase mind you...besides that daily traffic can vary--
but in a simple code we give the newly arrived starship operator(s)/PC's a quick glimpse of the "overall annual average" of traffic expected at the port..
One can imagine an adventure at a Busy port, arriving and the code they have *Very Busy* has been re-routed/changed to Very Low* makes you wonder whats going on in the system already??? it would for me! ;)
Good points. Average is *always* a bad choice of description in an abstract scale, 'cause what *is8 average?

Nice thinkinng Danny!

You know what, Mythmere? That's enough for what I'm looking for as well!

A nice, general, narrative descriptor that gives us an idea of activity vs. size. That's great!

Regarding the USfP, have any of you considered the profile discussed here:

I think it looks promising.

Do tell me if you have already dismissed such a thing and I have just missed it. I'm in the middle of catching up in this folder...
As in FT's Jeff Zeitlin's UESP:
The format of a Universal Extended Starship Profile (UESP) is as follows:

A-AAAAAAAAAA
| ||||||||||
| |||||||||+--- (TF) Tourist Facilities
| ||||||||+---- (BF) Business Facilities
| |||||||+----- (LC) Live Cargo Handling
| ||||||+------ (CH) Non-living Cargo Handling
| |||||+------- (FA) Fuel Availability
| ||||+-------- (DS) Dock Size
| |||+--------- (SR) Ship Repair Capability
| ||+---------- (SC) Ship Construction Capability
| |+----------- (OR) Orbital Component Rating
| +------------ (GR) Ground Component Rating
+-------------- (OV) Overall Rating - the code from the UWP

--yes we've seen it. 11 digits..
But it takes a wee longer than 10-20 minutes on avg to do..ours will be a wee shorter methinks..extras can be added as needed, if the port is an ongoing spot in the GM's campaign, for "detailing"..
A)
as in is the port itself an orbital or a down port (not whether its linked to a downport or highport)-combining an either /or approach to the port the PC's starship comes to.
B)
the Fuel rating is redundant, as has been pointed out to me, inherent in UWP starport code. If a GM doesn't know by canon by now what an A-port can do fuel wise (refined of course!) vs a D-port, tis time to read yer Book some!
C)
dock size/ starport size probably a given must have, [to speed yer reading Cymew]...tied to population/TL/ & economy of port where it lies astrographically as well.
D)
Based on size, one should be able to know what lind of cargo warehousing available<comprehensiveness here--see [C] above>.
E)
Likewise ship repair/ and building is dictated by the UWP type itself..SIZE of the port will dictate how much, yet again..so consolidation once more..<grins>.
F)
Size already dictates the number of facilities available, so Tourism stuff gets covered here as well.
G)
the Overall rating type- is a given in the UWP, unless this is a secondary (-1 type level from mainworld, or tertiary (-2, or more) port in question. thus becomes redundant.

To which we've decided to add (minus those six-seven):
*How busy is the port?(--in short descriptives, how many ships on a given day when the player's ship arrives)-based on size, TL, and economic factors...
*What are the customs laws here like?(if varying from planetary laws)
*Who owns/operates the port-ISA, Non imperial, commercial corp/ Military/ private..
*WHose allowed to use the port<dictated by ownership of course)-type of traffic

thats a synopsis thus far...of ideas..we'll solidfy them soon..and start hashing things out fer pubbing to Hunter.

thanks fer yer time, cymew!
