The Well Equipped Traveller

ChalkLine

SOC-11
Okay, you have a Tech Level 15 100dton Scout (whatever system)

What essential equipment do you outfit the ship with?

Chalkline,

Hmmm... squinting with an eye towards CT and off the top of my pointy head...

- Rescue balls; two per stateroom, two on the bridge, two in engineering, and four in the commons.

- At least one of each type of tool kit; mechanical, electrical, and electronic.

- Four shotguns with 100 rounds of ammo each.

- Four snub pistols with 24 rounds each of ball, tranq, and AP.

- A pair of those 'one-size-fits-all' vacc suits. (Everyone should have their own fitted suit already.)

- A couple dozen or more vacc suit repair kits; i.e. 'tear & swear'.

- Four personal comm units.

- One 'ship-to-shore' comm unit.

- Four medkits; one each for the bridge, engineering, and commons with the fourth avaiable as an 'away' kit.

- 100 man-days of MREs.

I'm sure I can think of more but the coffee hasn't kicked in yet!

Have fun,
Bill

Keep in mind that all of the following are tech-15, and NOT lower.

Tool Kits
Spare parts
Hand computers
Vac Suits for every person the ship is capable of carrying
Reentry kits
At least one televison
Ship-defense equipment (i.e. guns Guns GUNS!!!)

And don't forget the small nuclear weapon to use in case of hijacking.

Four shotguns with 100 rounds of ammo each.
Yep, shotguns are a great choice as a general-use weapon: while they aren't that good against armor and don't have a very good range, their damage is devastating, they are damn easy to use (penalty only on very, very low DEX), they're good against flying targets, and they are legal even on moderate-law worlds (actually the firearm with the greatest range of law-levels in which it is legal).

Other than shoguns, carry a wide range of guns and blades to fit a wide range of dangerous situations and a wide range of law levels. Sure, most characters will have a sidearm of their on, but a backup is always handy.

+ Large walk-in closet with well tailored Smokings and 3-piece Suits

+ About two tons of useless gadgets designed to look like clocks etc

+ Double sized bed and yakuzi

+ Attractive Zhodanie or Solomanie blonde that actually can cook

+ Capabel Pilot Droid and Astromech Droid to do the real work

+ A bartender droid that can make a very dry Martini

Then I have Q give it a quick check up and I am off to rescue the 3I.

What?! No towel? Ya know, just in case you end up hitching. Heck it's even useful if you aren't :)

OK, more seriously, depending on the rules set and such:

An Automed (or two) would be an excellent addition to the list.

And obviously a Ride, or more, for planetside exploration. At a minimum an enclosed air/raft (thinking the Hurricane class from MT) and some grav belts.

How about ammo for each crewman's wepon of choice?

Each crewman should be responsible for what he carries normally.

On the other hand, if my ship got into a place where it was a stand-up fight, I would not want my fate determined by the 20 or so rounds of ammo most people carry.

Same for any other key gear normally the responsibility of each crew man. Not so the crewman does not have to maintain his own gear, but so there is a backup in an emergency.

Also I would think if fighting were a normal and expected part of missions, (trouble shooters, bounty hunters, or what ever,) that the fire team be supplied with what ever weapons and ammo they chose, since that gear would be essential to the mission.

Also Spare comms units.

The rest of the gear as others have listed would certainly make me feel like I am on a ship that can take care of its self.

Just my thoughts. Especially a small vessel, with uncertain jobs, the boy scout motto really comes in handy.

"Be prepared" and don't forget the towel.

A really well-locked ship's locker. Just so the PCs in the lo-berth (who get left behind when the pirates hit) don't have to do things like weld rebar to make a "sword".... :nonono:

Oh, the thread title threw me off. I thought you'd been talking to my ex-wife about me.

Don't forget atmosphere tester or geiger counter/rad detector for those just-in-case moments and something most people forget: binoculars - TL-15 enhanced, of course. Cabling can come in handy if you do any dungeo... er... spelunking or mountain climbing.

For the ship, Missiles - and the missile launcher could double for a probe launcher. A MedicBot that can follow you into battle (no Red Cross on the chest tho - just makes it a better target). Emergency rations. And an entertainment center for the lounge.

Hmmm. I assume a yakuzi is some kind of hot tub with an attractive asian massuese/bodyguard/enforcer on hand.

Wouldn't you be worried about the yakuzi and blonde not getting along?

On the other hand I think I prefer this ship. Much better equipped then the others :)

Yes, a "Yakuzi" is a hot tub - but with some differences: it has criminal connections and is covered with tattoos (where they won't show, though). Also, once you get in, you better plan on never leaving - otherwise it'll hunt you down. ;)

(mbrinkhues, the reason for the confusion - I think - is because you spelled it the way it would sound in German: a "y" for a "j". However, its been spelled with a "j" in the US since forever, and it is actually pronounced with the "j" sound - jacuzzi. The Yakuza, of course, are the Japanese crime syndicate. Didn't know if you made the connection on the pronunciation. :) )

Yakuza - Jacuzzi it's all the same. Once you are in it's rather hard to come out. :)

Looked it up, it's written with a J even here (bah, bad my spelling is). Otherwise I got the Yak connection. Now back to the mobile add-on equipment - can I get the swedish model?

====================

But just in case one get's into problems with the tattooed version, the ships locker should contain:

+ A pump action shotgun (Worked for Robert Mitchum)
+ A golf club and balls (Worked for Jean Reno)

The well-equipped individual traveller should have:

-Ranged weapon for his skill, or shotgun if he has no skill
-A minimum of 60 rounds, whether using a shotgun or not
-Dagger or Blade
-Medium-range comm
-Armor, probably cloth
-Vac suit
-Hand Computer
-Underworld Contacts, lycanthropy extra
-A minimum of 5,000 Credits
-Towel, survival kit extra

If you want to include the devil you'll need a minimum of 1,000,000 Cr instead.
