Tne Ftl

zonk

SOC-12
Looking around on the forums I noticed that someone said that TNE had other FTL methods than the normal Jump drive. Now I recall that 2300 AD's shutterwarp was in Fire, Fusion & Steel ... but I don't really remember any of the others. My copies are in storage just now, would you like to help out a forgetful stranger?

And... seeing what Mongoose had put in their latest playtest did TNE, or perhaps I should say FF&S, have some of the computer options that Mongoose is adding?

I really need to dig my stuff out...

OK, first the FTL drives. You've got the standard jump drive (5% fuel per jump number, don't use it all on short jumps), Stutterwarp from 2300, Wormholes (keyhole, tramline...), Stargates, Subspace (Drive around on the hyperspace freeway), and Psionic Transfer Drives. (There's no place like home, no place like home.)

As for computer options, FF&S didn't have many. There was a chapter on cyber ware type stuff including subdermal armor, implant computers, and so on. All the bits to build a 'roid raging cyberpunk. I forgot to show my players that chapter.

Kwel! I really do need to get my stuff outa storage and read it again. I never actually played TNE, we had stopped playing Traveller for years by then.

Raging Traveller 'roids! :) How.. totally un-Traveller like

If you also have access to the TNE supplement Vampire this has additional equipment you can use for "borgs" as well as having the construction details for robots.

So all I need is a cross and stake to beat Virus?

I really need to get my stuff out of the locker

What kind of raging 'roid stuff was in Vampire Fleets? I suppose I could translate 2300AD's comp tech to TNE.

Vampire Fleets had Robot construction rules including things like robot arms. If you want the real thing and not some half-way cyborg full of steroids and matching attitude, you can build it. It basically has a sequence that looks like the vehicle sequence with arms, and brains and other stuff. I also noticed a half page or so on 'belief structures.'

Cool. Well Vampire (Fleets ;) ) is (edit:removed now) not available :( as a pdf at DriveThroughRPG so even though I don't seem to be able to win an ebay auction for one I can get it (or not ). I'd prefer, of course, that Marc made it available in a one shot $35 CD along with all the rest of TNE but beggars can't be choosers.

What other cool stuff is hidden in the various other supplements that I never read?

edit: Man I coulda sworn I saw Vampire Fleets at DriveThrough, but I went over and nada. Must be the drugs :nonono:

Unfortunately not. I ended up having to pay a eye watering amount of money to get a copy from e-bay. On the positive side:
1. The recent dollar exchange rate cushioned the blow
2. The copy i got was pristine
3. It is a very good addition to TNE

So my advice is keep trying, it is worth it in the end

Other cool stuff

Let's see.

World Tamer's Handbook had planets, advanced system generation, and design sequences for black-powder, bows and wagons. It credits material from World Builders Handbook but I'm not sure how much or which bits.

Striker II has about 2 pages of clarifications for vehicle building.

RCEG, the Reformation Coalition Equipment Guide, has about 4 pages of design updates including some gun mods.

Brilliant Lances was the starship combat game and included the basic ship-building system. Think FF&S but with prebuilt weapons.

The Regency Combat Vehicle Guide may have had some rules changes but I can't find mine right now.

Otherwise, Challenge 76, had the last of the errata including the plasma/fusion fixes but the plasma stuff is in one of the other books as well.
