• Welcome to the new COTI server. We've moved the Citizens to a new server. Please let us know in the COTI Website issue forum if you find any problems.
  • We, the systems administration staff, apologize for this unexpected outage of the boards. We have resolved the root cause of the problem and there should be no further disruptions.

Traffic down, regulars gone.

I drop by just after visiting the Mongoose Traveller boards- and I actually check them daily.

However, I only check the unread posts, and occasionally post new stuff (like the obit post for Benoit Mandelbrot yesterday).

I do the rounds of Mongoose, SFRPG and here every few days and have done since becoming a member.
I'm limited in the amount of time I can spend reading the forums, so only post infrequently. (usually when i see something that I feel I can make a real contribution to.)

I'm sure many members are in similar circumstances.

Oh, I don't mind posting or lurking at all on CoTI. I can do both with equal facility. I do enjoy posting more, though, because it enables me. I feel that I am making a contribution now and then. :)

Still around, just lurking mostly

I was at TravellerCon over the last few days.

TravellerCon was a nice intimate little affair, met some really nice and friendly folks. Got to play a fair bit of Traveller (MGT) and some Full Thrust variants, played the battle of Barnard's Star, made the Vilani pay in blood.

I met a few posters here and from the Mongoose boards, made some acquaintances, I'll be going back next year.

I lurk on an irregular basis spend more time with the family and trying to enjoy real life more. Been cutting back on a lot of online stuff and 3D too not just the boards here.

By Full Thrust variants do you mean Power Projection? And did you file an after-action report? How much blood did the Vilani pay?

I'm busy writing. I take a break every now and again and check the boards, but that's just down time.

I also gave up trying to offer advice and observations for the most part. Now, I'll only respond if something strikes me funny.

Now I'm going back to writing.

Yes, Power Projection, we took a light cruiser out for the price of 2 destroyers and a corvette.

We the Americans and North Atlantic opened by going to full thrust, did a high intensity launch from the corvettes (4 in each division) all targeted on a single Lt. Cruiser, we followed with a second High Intencity launch on the same target and the corvettes disengaged.

Serendipity then took a hand, the Vilani fleet seperated to engage our seperate formations and the move allowed both missile waves to arrive simultaneously as the escorts moved out of support range of the Lt. Cruiser. It was a bit of overkill, but we eliminated one of the 2 heavy elements.

My Division bore most of the enemies fury, and paid the price, first one DD and a Corvette were lost to hevy beam and missile action, the last DD lasted 2 more turns.

That was the first part of the Battle of Barnards Star, 2 DD's and 7 Corvettes escaped to re-inforce the UN and Chinese fleets for the second part.

Our Victory Conditions were to Destroy the enemy flagship, and inflict damage. We guessed wrong on the ID of the Flagship, but we inflicted much more loss of points than we lost.

It was my very first game of Power Projection by the way. I played Full Thrust at a con many years ago.

Why's that then? Are you serving at the president's pleasure?

No, extended family and doctor signed me up for a county and state sponsored program which I'm trying to get out of. And for which I've seen a lawyer. All I can do now is note the instances and pass them on in hopes that a court of law will put an end to this.

But it won't happen.
