What's the revenue model for the game?

I (very casually) play Hearthstone because I like the game play.

I also, however, happen to pretty much hate "deck building". So, I don't get very far, playing the basic decks. Playing solo stuff against "bosses".

I have earned, like, 33 "card packs" over time, none of which I've opened.

But it's a fun, free game, colorful, and animated.

Hey whartung, thanks for the question!

The revenue model is the sale of cards, which come in fixed decks.

If you don't want to build decks, you can always play the with pre-built ship decks!

I'm disappointed to hear about the cancellation of the Kickstarter for the online verz... but certainly I understand. Good to understand this reception to this presentation now, rather than having this same realization a year and thousands more dollars into it.
