traveller CCG

Gee, I let myself get a little run down and take a week off to recuperate and look at what comes back to life

Indeed I hadn't completely forgotten it T. Foster, but RealLife(tm) thwarted my attempt for some playtesting and ftf input so it went in the future projects pile. Its a tall and instable pile, very subject to random reprioritizing by accident ;)

Ah well, who knows, I may play with it some more yet. I have some other irons in the fire at the moment, and my "vacation" has put that a week or more behind so it may be a while. Now to go see what else I missed here...

Feh!

Blasted Cards! Take all the Imagination out of it... Personally, I d rather see a good set of character minatures, along the line of the old Grenadier ones...

But since its cards, Why not invent a game within a game? Vilani Poker? Aslan Blackjack? I know i may be stating it in Sort of Star Trek type terms (Ala Saurian Brandy, whatnot) but it would add flavor to the game if there was one or several Games that Citizens of the Imperium "actually" play. Consider: as a young lad I would have sold me sainted Grandmother to the K'Kree for a set of those round "Battlestar Galactica" cards, It was a simple device that added depth to a background...

Felgercarb!

How did I miss this thread first time round? Anyway, time for my Cr2 worth.

The only CCG I've played before is ICE's Middle Earth and agree with JonF's earlier comment about it being great for it's slight RPG gameplay and using a map.
Earlier comments about solitaire play are very valid too as a survey a while ago on JTAS showed a large percentage (IIRC) of Traveller fans that either weren't playing in a game or played solo. This leads to me to think that a subsector (or cluster?) based merchant game that can be played solo would be nice.
A bonus would be if you could use some of the cards for regular RPG play. It'd be nice to pull out say, the Type-A card with graphics on one side and game stats on the other for the players to refer to. Armament could be added as seperate cards as previously suggested.

I'd be interested in seeing a card game.

Someone in this thread mentioned Decipher games; I messed with their Star Wars CCG and liked it alot. Playing with it actually gave me some ideas for games in Traveller.

Evil Plop Opines:
Lets have a Traveller/Nuclear War card game cross over. Referees, tell your hapless PC group that SUPER GERM is coming for them! BWAHAHAHAHA!

As much as I am loathe to admit it, and as I personally believe CCGs to be the Crack Cocaine of the gaming community...

The idea of a CCG for Traveller may be just the ticket to get some new blood into the game.

But to whomever creates such an beast, please, please, please, make it fun and campy vs serious and annoying. ;)
